New Castle, Del.- The DogHouse Sandwich Shoppe
This has been one of our favorite (well one of my favorite) places to stop on our travels North. The DogHouse is a local institution since the 1950’s and is still just about the same as it was back then.
The menu is simple. Dogs, burgers, cheese steaks, fresh turkey sandwiches, or pizza. If you stop during lunch, which starts about 10 am and runs till 4 pm (when dinner starts) you will most likely have to wait for a seat which is counter seating only. BUT the wait is worth it.
On this stop mine was a chili cheese dog, fries and a root beer. In the past we have tried a variety of dog combinations and the cheese steaks. I have never seen anyone order a turkey sandwich.
So if you find yourself traveling north on US Rt.13 in New Castle Del. after your sales tax free shopping spree, stop for a couple dogs at the Dog House.

I love places like that, but most of them are gone now days or has changed to something else. There is one place though which I pass on my way home from Gothenburg that I always stops at, they have the best hamburgers :-)
Have a great day now!
Christer.
Looks right up my line.
Looks like a good place to go. I knew this had to be Grenville's post as soon as I read the title!
Hi Kids,
Your right Christer, you need some special places along the way, even in life. Yes Steve it is definatly worth the stop. Are you picking on me Elaine????? :-) Thats OK.... i know all the great gor-met places to stop.
Picking on you? No way! I love hot dogs, and they definitely fit in the gor-met category. I've filed this place away for future reference.
