Best Buy + iPad Perfect Together?

Did you hear — it was all over the online news we read — that retailer Best Buy (BB) is offering a 2-day buy back. It lets folks trade-in their older iPad2 device for a $200 (minimum) gift card, which is only redeemable at Best Buy locations, in-store or online.

It's a limited offer with a 2-day window that goes from TODAY, (Friday, July 12) to Saturday, July 13. And, potential trade-uppers must go to a regular BB storefront for this promo.
The $200 minimum is a starting point as condition and peripherals could up the ante. Also, all personal data must first be removed from the iPad before evaluation. There was no info online on HOW much more $$$ pristine units would fetch. And, as always, there are "rules"  so here's the Terms & Conditions legalese (verbatim) from the BB website (enlarged somewhat as they are always teeny-weeny type):
In store only. Valid 7/12/13-7/13/13. In store only. 16GB WI-FI only iPad with Retina display $499.99 prior to gift card credit, which is deducted after taxes. Not all products are eligible for trade-in. Excludes first generation iPad and iPad mini. Not available in all locations. Trade in value may vary. Condition, documentation and accessories may affect value. Device must power on to be considered working. Device with cracked screen or water damage is not considered working for purposes of this offer. Payment is by Best Buy gift card. You are responsible for removing any data from your product before providing the device for evaluation. You will be required to agree to the Terms & Conditions. Best Buy reserves the right to refuse any trade in or to limit quantities for any reason. Taxes and any applicable surcharges due at the time of purchase. No rain checks. See a Customer Specialist or Best Buy.com/TradeIn for details.
As noted above, BB's current price for the latest iPad version (retina display, WI-FI, 16GB capacity) is $499. 99 which would make it $299.99 after the gift card is applied but that's AFTER the applicable tax is paid on the original cost.
BB said it plans to recycle the tablets, no further details on HOW. In June, BB ran a 1-day iPhone trade-in offering a free iPhone 5 to those giving up a working iPhone 4 or 4S; the promo was reportedly the company's biggest trade-in day.
We each have an iPad2 (mine is shown above) cause we tend not to share toys well. The closest BB store front is a 90-minute drive, each way. Our units, while fast becoming "older" as techie  things do, like cars, work fine. We opted to pass on this deal.

BUT, we still wondered ?
  • IF any fellow bloggers took advantage of this promo
  • IF there were long lines from others trading in, and
  • IF there were current iPads in stock so folks could bring in the old and leave with the new.
We gotta "get a life."
Enjoy your weekend, Folks.

Hmmmm....sounds like a pretty good deal. I don't own an iPad (yet), so there ya go.

I think there is high demand for used iPads in China. So Best Buy will send it back to where it came from. I also think Apple will be coming out with new models this Fall so it is a good way to move the remaining stock of the current model. I probably will get one when the new one comes out. Maybe it will be an iPad mini.

I hadn't heard about this, but we don't live anywhere near a Best Buy, so that's probably why.

Not a bad deal at all but I live on the wromg side of the ocean and don't own an iPad at all :-) I doubt that could happen here, I've only heard deals like that when it comes to tv's.

Have a great day!
Christer.

I have a pretty new IPad so I won't be making use of this but great to find out this kind of info for others. Thank you!

We do have BB up here but I'm pretty sure they didn't have this deal. It wouldn't have affected us and our iPad1 anyway.
