Garden’s End

It’s been a busy week at the Frog & PenguINN.  Grenville and John Deere “played” in the gardens for a couple of days.

This is how the veggie gardens looked in mid-summer when the crops were in season.

garden overview0623This is how part of that garden looked earlier this week.

garden cleared1118 (2)Here’s how it looks after being cleared out and mulched yesterday.

garden cleared1118 (4)Before it was cleared, we picked some eggplant, peppers and carrots. The carrots are not shown, but there was a small basketful, some were given away. The others are going into another batch of carrot soup and some carrot bread for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

veggies1106Also last week, before the temps dipped into the 30s, we found a few strawberries and some blossoms.

strawberries1106The wildflower jungle meadow was cut down and mulched this week. After returning from our fall NH road trip, we had another 3 weeks of enjoyment from its blooms. But a couple of cold evenings this week killed the remaining flowers. Photos in an upcoming post.

My garden still looks more like photo # 2 only much much worse.

To answer you question about the program I used for the montage on my blog, I used Photoshop and did it all manually. It took me a couple or three hours. Thanks for stopping by.

Surprising to see strawberries in bloom and with fruit this late in the season! Nice pictures. It always makes me a little sad to know the garden has ended for another year. :)

Well as You know the season stopped here long ago but I heard that there still was strawberries to be found further north where they have had it a bit warmer then we've had it here. But not any longer, they got snow last night :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

That is one great spot for a garden and it sure held on. I hope to have one started this spring.

it is amazing you got all that from a garden that was almost dead. lots of work but worth it for those veggies and the flowers are more than worth the work.

A lovely harvest for the end of the growing season.

Hi Scott, thanks for the visit and the info about how you did the montage. I have an older version of Photoshop and am quite sure it would take me twice (maybe triple) as long as you did. Picassa works so much faster for me.

Daisy, I even picked (and ate) a couple of strawberries over the weekend, but don't think they will be others. Luckily, we froze some from the summer harvest to enjoy this winter.

Hey Christer, no snow here yet, but expect to see some soon on your blog!

Tammy, this garden was smaller than in previous years and next year we will downsize even more because we had an overflow for only 2 in the household.

Sandra, we were amazed as well at this last harvest which would had been more except for a couple of cold nights which did in most of the peppers. The wildflowers were self-tending (thankfully).

Agreed Lois, they make a good team!

Thanks Denise, it was certainly a surprise too!
