Friday Funnies

There's been a lot of foul-ness in Nashua, NH, in recent days and not all weather related.
This was not the prettiest view from our apartment window
Of course, the weather has been a factor with overnight rain on Wednesday evening followed by heavy downpours and thunderstorms all day on Thursday.
Canada geese goslings from several families
The biggest waterfowl situation has been the very population of Canada geese on the Nashua River near the mill apartments. There's up to four families with about 18 fast-growing goslings between. (Maybe the geese self-isolated the past couple of years like a lot of humans.)
Canada geese families on the Nashua River, NH
The families often stay together when out on the Nashua River. Adult geese stay in front, back or to the side of the goslings, which do not stray far from parental supervision.
Canada geese families on Water St and along the Nashua River walk
Recently, the goose families have become adventuresome and can be seen en masse on the roadways and walkways near the Nashua River walkway. Hopefully, the recent rains will help clear up the foul messes that all these fowl have been leaving. Walking to avoid them has become quite a challenge.
Anywhere from 4 to 6 Mallards gather on the river bank
Things are just ducky and Canada geese not the only waterfowl here. Recently there's been a larger-than-usual population of male Mallards (drakes). Their female counterpart (hens) haven't been seen and could be nesting nearby; more waterfowl updates may be coming in the future.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone

Nice to see your geese and ducks. I was watching a family of geese recently when the little ones found a hole in a fence and went through. There then followed an amusing interlude while the adults tried to get through and, after much consternation, eventually remembered that they could fly and so re-united the family.

They are interesting creatures, but indeed they are foul fowl, especially en masse. Hope that your community finds an answer. We had pigeons taking over our downtown streets. An answer was found.

Canada geese ARE messy! I don’t know how many times I have heard Bob say “watch where you walk”, whenever we are where the geese frequent.

So the geese enjoy taking a gander around town, so to speak.

your night view is spectacular! my first thought was wow, that is a lot of adorable baby geese, the next thought was that is a lot of mess on those beautiful bricks.

I love watching the birds. (fowl) That last photo of the river is quite lovely. Enjoy your day, hugs, Edna B.

Watching them, even your beautiful photos, doesn't test one's ability to walk near them. Our little lake has the same situation, and at one time hired a dog who would chase them away...even to the extent of swimming after them. They weren't pleased but eventually would fly away. But they (geese) and ducks are back, and not to overpowering here. You will now have all those baby geese return to nest in the area when adults! Thanks for braving the foulness to capture the fowl!

There are no Canada geese in Hawaii. Too far to fly here. LOL. Gigi Hawaii

It looks like a 'mass invasion'. The council of the city can and should find a solution.

Oh my goodness they are everywhere then. I see it's not good to go walking then.

I always enjoy seeing them swagger along the streets and sidewalks like they own the place, which of course they probably did until humans paved it over.

Yup! Be careful! That stuff is mighty slippery! ;)

That's a lot of geese and goslings. No wonder there's a big excrement problem. The geese on the Nashua River Walk look in a bit of a hurry - have they spotted some food, I wonder?

That is indeed a lot og Canada geese - the goslings are so cute! We do have quite a bit here as well. I haven't been to the lake in the recent weeks, but will go tomorrow and then can see what the Canada geese population looks like now.

You do have a great view Dorothy. That boat parade must be nice to see. We sometimes go to the fireworks in Wolfeboro which overlook Wolfeboro Bay and all the boat lights are always pretty. And that is a whole lot of ducks and geese. But the babies are so cute. Hope all is well with you. Hugs-Erika

WOW! What a view!

I enjoyed the fabulous series of photos, Dorothy.

I'd love to see a Canada goose in the flesh.

Happy Tuesday!

That's a lot of geese! Goslings are so cute though.
OH, rain/storms... we've had a fair amount lately. Today's seem to be clearing and hopefully a nicer weekend ahead.
Lighted parade scene of 2020 was nice to see.
