Independence Day 2020

Independence Day this year is a markedly different holiday than in past years.
We're celebrating quietly together at home. Burgers and fixings are on the menu.
After dinner, we'll join some mill apt neighbors for a social distancing dessert get together at the Nashua River. (There will also be some adult beverages.)
Sadly, there's no “official” fireworks displays to watch, but we'll happily reminisce about years past and watch many “unofficial” and private ones we’ve been seeing lately.

(FYI: The patriotic-themed masks we’re wearing are USA made. They were bought from the American Quilt Company, based here in Nashua, NH, which has an online website.)

We hope you have good times, today, whether celebrating solo or with family and friends. Missing everyone is hard, but being safe is a mandate in uncertain times.

Thanks for your comments on yesterday's Friday Funnies post. Admittedly, I had a lot of fun with those photo puns. Now, I have to be on the lookout for more to post in the future.

It's a shame that Big Brother has taken the independence out of Independence Day in guise of a pandemic. I don't see how banning firework displays will save our lives - but I'm no expert.

Despite the efforts of the spoilsports, it sounds like you have nice plans for the day. Having a burger dinner at home is great - I think it's better than going out to eat.

A neighborhood gathering at the river for dessert is also a pleasant idea - despite the absence of fireworks.

Have a fantastic 4th!
I like the patriotic masks!

How could I not have realised? Dates mean so little at the moment that I don't look at them and hadn't even realised what date it is today until I saw your post. I hope that you have a very enjoyable day despite everything.

I forgot to say that I like the fireworks on your masks, perfect for your celebrations.

Happy 4th! We did see some fireworks last night from our balcony. Individuals must have been shooting off some from their houses. There will likely be more tonight but no town sponsored ones. Not a good idea to have folks in closer proximity than need be and spread the virus even more.

What a great photo of you and hubby. Your masks are awesome! I just figure - do we really need to have fireworks to be thankful for our freedom? We'll have fireworks next year. You have a wonderful fourth of July, hugs, Edna B.

Your masks are fabulous. Definitely a quieter weekend than usual, but still had a nice time. I find weekends are harder with less structure than during the week. I was able to "get together" with friends and enjoyed catching up. Take care!

You two look good in your masks, nice to know you are helping to keep a local business going, and also thank you for taking good care of others and yourselves by wearing them. Hope you had a great 4th, ours was quiet but enjoyable.

Sounds like you had a wonderful July 4th.

Your face masks are very appropritae for the day. :)

After reading about the American Quilt Company on your previous post, I ordered face shields from them. Thank you for the information.

July 4th felt more like a summer Saturday rather than the holiday for me. I missed fireworks. But I sure heard enough bangs as everyone around me seemed to be shooting them off. Hope your socially distanced drinks was fun and you enjoyed your day. hugs-Erika

Gathering with some neighbors at the river for dessert sounds good to me - that's a nice way to celebrate.
I haven't missed the fireworks at all. There were so many private (and illegal, because of the wildfire hazard) ones that went on all night, it was no fun.
Thank you for your comments on my blog, it is so nice to "meet" you!

It's nice to have some neighbors to celebrate with (socially distanced and all). This really has been a strange year. We went out for a short hike over the weekend and were surprised by the massive hoards of tourists on our usually empty trail. Sigh - oh well. I guess we all just wanted the same thing.

It's amazing how many companies are making masks now. I'm using surgical ones or a black one I bought from Aliexpress with a small white star on it.
