Most likely, you've noticed the river bank work and equipment on the right.
There's been an ongoing river bank cleanup over the past couple of months. It started in late March with the posting of several signs.
As stated, the purposes of this project are to provide open views, more safety and better access. Before this project started, many invasive and non-native plants had obscured or narrowed the river walkways.
The project is part of the Nashua Riverfront Development Plan and recommendations include connected walkways, landscaping, enhanced access to the waterfront, historical and natural resource protection, lighting, alternative parking solutions and amenities. There's also the potential for new construction and ongoing maintenance.
This project has been removing clearing the river banks in a multi-phase project. First most of the overgrowth was cut down and that also involved
The plan represents a vision for dramatically improving the way the Nashua River Downtown riverfront looks and to make it not only an asset for the city, but and a destination for others to visit.
- Create a continuous riverwalk that connects downtown Nashua and surrounding neighborhoods with improved connections to Main Street.
- Manage invasive specie and maintain riverfront vegetation.
- Create visual and physical opportunities to access the river with a priority on a new dock structure and fountains.
- Preserve existing and add new green space within the river corridor.
- Create opportunities for recreation in, on and around the river.
Sure, these projected improvements will take time, perhaps years. We're looking forward to seeing them develop (especially from our 5th floor viewpoint) and ultimately hope to enjoy them. However, we miss these seasonal views from our window, taken during the nearly 4 years we've lived in Nashua.
No question about it, the best season for a spectacular window view was autumn. It will be quite a while until we see anything to match these fall colors.
The river front clean-up is continuing despite shutdowns in many other parts of the city, and we have (a lot of) time to wait, especially now.

I thought of you when I saw that Luminar 3 was available free of charge. Until last year, it was selling at a fairly high price, but now version 4 has been out for 6 months or so, they are offering 3 if you sign up for a newsletter. Obviously, they are hoping that this will eventually induce people to purchase the newer version.

i prefer the views you show us, and i have found that when THEY start making things better it rarely is better. they ruined our favorite preserve by making it better. we don't go there any more. it was nautraul, now is is man made
Quite a project, indeed. Your views are spectacular, what a window into your world. A grand place to shelter during this pandemic.
Such beautiful views there.
Times will tell. As there been any consultation to what you all want? Its a shame to have all yours views changed without prior agreement.
Sounds like a great project. I hope they can accomplish all that they are planning. Your four seasons views are beautiful.
Always good to see these clean up projects, taking pride in their community. Lovely views!
Once again I am impressed by your gorgeous view. How nice it must be to look out the window and enjoy it.
That's a magnificent old mill building and it's so good that it's found a purpose in this modern age.
I'm all for cleaning up projects, but when it comes to changing or adding things - I get often disappointed. I'm not talking about window views, but of changes such as noise, unexpected hazards for pedestrians or elderly people. etc..
What views you have, I know I mentioned that before. :) Hopefully the improvement will actually improve the river.
You really live in a huge building complex! And the views are really gorgeous--especially from where you are on fifth floor! They seem to be doing a great job with the riverfront. :)
Your lovely photos have a European flair to them. For some reason, that first photo reminds me of St.Petersburg, Russia.
And those clouds are spectacular!
Hi Beatrice, Thanks for the great views of the Nashua River...but they cut down way too many trees and shrubs! The effort is admirable but yikes! Nearby Knoxville is redeveloping the riverfront too and hopefully a little nature will remain or be renewed. Never been to Nashua but on a vacation a couple of years ago we wandered up US 202 just a bit west of you as we looped around parts of New England. We actually lived in Attleboro MA for a year many years ago. Following my blog you will note that we are lazy in the kitchen...simple...prepared foods, leftovers consumed...etc. Even when we make a big production out of cooking, its very basic! Can't wait for restaurants to reopen...but more importantly, for us to feel safe eating out! Stay Safe and Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
Your view has changed quite a bit since the construction works for the river improvement started. Such improvement projects can make a big difference to the community, even the town. Here in Glasgow, similar improvements are on the way and it already feels more open and safe. It was a bit of a wasteland previously, at least in some parts. So here, whatever is done is an improvement. I hope that the Nashua project will give you all that is advertised, and more. It will take a while for large trees to go back but you'll see a difference year after year.
You definitely have a beautiful view, but that last photo is spectacular! Enjoy your evening, hugs, Edna B.
I love your four season pictures. I haven't been to Nashua in forever, but I'm putting it on my travel list. I think the river walk -- like in Providence -- will be fabulous when it's done. Yes, I'm still keeping a travel list, but it's places much closer to home.
It does seem that they were a little over-zealous with tree removal, but perhaps it was a cautionary measure and involved species prone to blight and disease. In any event, I hope that in the plans for revitalization, which all seem quite splendid, they will include some natural areas to encourage native wildlife. Seems like a progressive city.
I don't think I have ever been to downtown Nashua, even though I have been shopping in Nashua a lot. It's really interesting to see these photos of the river and always good for a clean up.
congratulations for having started such wonderful project in your area dear Dorothy :)
i am so happy that your surrounding will appear more impressive when it's done
