We hope that Everyone had a fun, safe, and cool(er) July 4th. We celebrated in our little part of the VA Eastern Shore by attending these events. The pre-holiday celebration started in neighboring Onancock on July 3 with a band concert and FREE ice cream; hot and humid temps made it taste even better.
Early (8 a.m. yawn) July 4th, we returned to the Eastern Shore Public Library, where we had helped sort books the day before. These had to be assembled for the 9 a.m. start of the Firecracker Book Sale. 
Lots of “nearly new” books – soft and hard covers – in this annual sale, which is run by the library Friends as a fundraiser. This was the biggest to date and raised over $1300.
Grenville and I helped by stocking up on paperbacks by James Patterson and Clive Cussler — 50 cents each were great deals !
At 10 a.m. there was a short break in sales as the library is on the parade route. Folks went out to watch the Accomac non-motorized July 4th parade. Bikes are the most popular mode of transportation in this 10 minute, 1/2-mile long parade.
What would a parade be without marchers and fire trucks and other non-motorized transport ? Notably absent were politicians waving or throwing candy – Thank goodness

I love library book sales but I won't buy any new books until after the move!
We had a children's bike parade here... Much easier for the organizers etc I'm sure and the kids had a great time.

i wonder why the southern states do not have 4th of July parades. i see them on TV and on blogs, but the only thing we have here and when i lived in GA is fireworks. ours were beautiful, i saw them in the paper this morning, we were asleep by then.

When I saw your parade pictures the first thing that came in me head was the Music man and the song I Love a Parade ..yeah I know I'm like
that ; }!!
One thing that hasn't changed much over the years are the things you see in a parade ( thank goodness)!!
My little town doesn't have a parade, because "Moxie Days" (hate that stuff yuck) are coming up and that's when the big hoop-la happens with parades and all : }!!

You sure knows how to celebrate! We don't :-) We rarely have parades here and I wish we could have them at least once a year.
