Let It Snow (Finally)

Yes, it did, even if it took nearly two years until we finally got a major snowstorm not only in Nashua, NH, but in most of southern New England.
The first significant snow of 2024 started late Saturday night and continued into early Sunday evening, about 15 inches fell here in Nashua, NH, over last weekend. The tall castle-like structure in the bottom right image is the Odd Fellows building on Main Street in downtown Nashua. Its first cornerstone was laid in May 1891. Odd Fellow meetings were held on the fourth floor of the building from its early days up until 2007.
The 24-hour+ storm produced a heavy wet snowfall; lot plowing continued for several hours at the mill apartments. The upper lot parking area is plowed in sections. Residents who park outside need to move their cars starting at 7:30 a.m. to designated snow-cleared areas. Cars are to be moved in an a.m. and p.m. shift. There's also paid underground parking, which is where we park our vehicles, thankfully no need to scrape off or shovel out.
This is a now familiar early morning view from our apartment windows. Similar scenes have been posted in the past.
This view shows the pedestrian walkway across the Nashua River, also viewed from our living room windows.
Sights seen on grounds around the apartment complex include the bell that once hung in the mill's tower cupola and rung out for mill workers many years ago, a newspaper box, fire box and a resident's bike. Unlike a car, the bike did not have to be moved.
Cold seating was available on the apartment grounds and with a view by the riverside. The brick building closest to the right side houses another former mill now apartments, Lofts 34.
Because this storm produced a wet snow, trees and buses remained snow-covered for several hours. We went walking in the mill yard and along the river front but kept to a street area as the river walkway had not been cleared.
This very large (and old) tree is directly behind the mill apartments close to the river.
Beautiful even when covered in snow, this bronze sculpture of a young mill worker and her son, La Dame de Notre Renaissance Française, stands in the center of an area known as Le Parc de Notre Renaissance Française (
Renaissance Park) along the Nashua River.
This area is dedicated to French-Canadian immigrants who arrived in Nashua between 1870 and 1872 and worked in the city's textile mills. By 1936, about 14,560 of Nashua’s 31,938 residents were French.
The average snowfall for Nashua is between 50 to 55 inches, but that snowfall amount has not even come close in recent years. That could change this year with another chance of snow this week. Forecasters are warning about a northeast storm starting Tuesday night, but switching to rain on Wednesday; flooding could be an issue in many snow-covered or low areas.

How about your area — got snow? ☃️

Wanna share? Here it is dull, grey, dismal, warm and downright depressing. I would like my winter back, please.

I was about to say rather you than me, but i realized when I thought it that snow, like rain, and sunshine is needed every where it usually snows. the planet needs what it needs in each area. i am happy you got your snow. we got 2 rains, but not all that we need, today we have afterenoon storm coming, winds to 55 mph and the schools in 5 counties closed. the weather seems to have gone Wild.. the photos are gorgeous and my favorite is the statue, she is beautiful with all that icing made of snow. All the photos are super great

You received at least 10 more inches of snow than we did. It sure is a beautiful scene out your apartment windows.

We are getting the mix of snow and rain starting tomorrow. The high winds will be more of a factor here. Hope you don’t have flooding!

Our average snowfall is about 75 inches per year, but we haven't had that much in the last few years, for which I am immensely grateful. It's very scary to drive in, plus all the fun events I've had canceled over the years. We have had a few inches over the past few days, but it looks like rain and high winds are headed our way, which isn't much better. However, your photos are very pretty and I'm glad you were able to get outside.

Thanks for some great New England snow photos! I know how fleeting it is these days... and it sounds like yours won't be around for long.

We got a fall when you did, but ours was less and the snow was light. Schools are off today despite no snow. We were expecting one, but it didn't eventuate. However, one of the more miserable storms is set to come overnight along with a kicker of freezing rain. Those are the worst.

You didn't get a lot of snow last winter? I don't think we did, except for the end of January when we had 3 big storms in a week. Of course, it was the week we were away. I hope this winter's snow confines themselves to now and then end too. It can snow all it wants up north and in the mountains. hugs-Erika

We got about an inch, just barely enough to cover the ground. We are finally going to get cold, it's been a very strange winter. It is easier on the heating budget, although sort of weird. Your views are gorgeous.

The snowy scenes are pretty. I'm sure the river views are spectacular from your windows and I'm glad your parking spaces were cleared of snow for you.

We are sitting in about 9 inches of snow. More is on the way. It is so pretty and everything is white.

Well that put our snow to shame. Looking spectacular in your corner. We could do with a little more if you can spare it. B x

Oh my, what a gorgeous view from your apartment windows.
I have to admit I'm glad I don't have to contend with snow and icy roads, but it sure is lovely to look at.
Love the photo of the snow bound bicycle and especially the statue. she looks like she has her fur cape and hat on. Its so pretty against the blue sky.

Our snow was very light not full of moisture like yours. Dan had an easy time shoveling the parts he had to do including the roof. Not looking forward to the next storm which is to start as snow and change to pouring rain overnight.

I'm actually jealous! We've been getting ice with dustings of snow--enough to make walking and driving dangerous. We usually have a lot of snow and are thickly white here all winter, too, but that has changed the past few years. I'd much rather have your gorgeous snow than the thinly covered ice and freezing temperatures here. Looks beautiful!! :)

Pretty pictures!
Y'all got a lot more snow than this area of western Vermont near the lake.
Stay warm!

Don't you love the blue skies that come after fresh snow? You got quite the dump! The photos are wonderful. We only have a dusting.

I love snow but we hardly get any, here, in the Middle East. I see it mainly in pictures - like yours.
You've got great views from your windows! The bronze sculpture of the young Mill worker and her son is fascinating!
Anyway, we've still got two months to worry about winter's whims. May God keep us healthy and well!

12 in of snow at one time is too much and causes all kinds of problems. Stay safe and I'm sure you'll get out of it.

Beautiful photos, especially that statue covered in her White Ermine Hat and Coat of snow. I hope you don't get any flooding, but if you get rain on top of all that snow, chances are there will be flooding the in the lower areas. Praying you all stay safe and warm and dry. The views are stunning, however!!! No snow here in Florida, but we had quite a rainstorm with tornado warnings today. Thankfully none touched down here. Take care and have a blessed and beautiful rest of your week.

Wonderful joyous photos that put me in a good mood! Stay warm, safe, and cozy.

Argh...that's a lot of snow. In my case it would all be very unwanted. Everything looks sooooooo cold and slippery. You were a brave soul to go out and photograph it. At my age, fear of falling is a thing...so I wouldn't have gone out in it. The only part of snow I like is it brighten things up during the dull brown and gray season. Stay warm, stay safe.

Snow looks pretty, but the cold must be awful. Hope there is no flooding.

Hi, this is Ginny. Thank you so much for your comment! I feel like I know you, because The Mad One mentions you from time to time. I love seeing the area you live in! And what an awesome view you have from your apartment! I love the first set of photos, and the way the sun and shade are in the others. I think that edible Scrabble would not last long enough to even be played here! Following you!! I do love Scrabble and Words With Friends.

Great photos! I love the snow, none here yet. I enjoyed this snowy tour around your area. The statue of the mill worker and her son was lovely! They seem very organized moving the cars around for clearing.

Wow, the view from the apartment windows is absolutely stunning!
Although snow is enchanting and pretty, I'm glad to be warm and toasty in my forever-summer corner of the world.

Hugs and blessings, Beatrice

Hi Beatrice, That is a lot of snow! We haven't even seen snow flurries yet this winter but we have had lots of drought busting rain. Fresh snowfalls are beautiful but we don't miss snow at all! We may have some flurries this week yet, time will tell. Love your photos! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

I always like looking at snowy photographs.
No snow where I live but the weather has turned colder, definitely soups and casseroles weather :)

All the best Jan

A great collection of snow shots. I find it to be special except when I have to move it around. I kinda like moving it around too though.

We got very little snow in the Shenandoah Valley and it melted quickly.
