Friday Funnies

We're decluttering and downsizing on a regular basis, but it's funny how sometimes we add something quite unexpectedly.

No sooner is a holiday over, that the really deep discounts come out, some starting a day after the holiday is over.

Oddly enough, the item below was the last vestige of Christmas merchandise in the local CVS retail pharmacy. The post-holiday sale shelves had already been cleared of discounted items.

There was nothing else reminiscent of Christmas in the store. After all, the holiday had passed over a month ago, last year. It was time to restock shelves for upcoming holidays.

That's why we couldn't resist a 90% discount — OK, we could have, but didn't.

This was standing by the candy displays all stocked for Valentine's Day. While it looked out of place, the outfit was the right color. (Santa stands 34 inches tall, the height of a small child.)

Definitely, not something we came to buy; our purpose was vitamins. Are most bargains always unexpected?

But, 90% off was a big discount, so, after discussing this purchase for 2 minutes, we decided to bring Santa home, someone had to do it. It may be small to see, but the arrow is pointing to the $4.99 final price, down from the original $50 list.

It had started to snow and we had walked downtown, so the sales person provided a large bag as a cover-up for the trip home. Santa is used to winter and, we figured, most likely wouldn't mind.
Now, there's a Christmas trio in the apt. Fred, the talking snowman was a $3 purchase at a Goodwill Thrift Store and the unnamed wooden reindeer was $4 at a flea market.

Have you also bought anything unexpected recently? If so, please share in a comment.

Not being much of a shopper, I have not made an impulse purchase in a long time. I patronize used book stores and the book section in a thrift store, but since I enter with the intention of looking for book bargains, I don't think my purchase would qualify as impulse buying. Usually I find nothing, occasionally something worthwhile and once in a while a real gem. That's what keeps me going back I suppose.

It’s hard to resist such a great deal. I recently bought two bed pillows for the total price of $9.99 in the close out section of a local store. They are just the right texture and even though we don’t need them, I will save them until we do.

He is a cute one. I may have been tempted too at that price. How tall is he?

To answer your question, Marcia, the Santa is 34 inches tall, the height of a small child !

wow, wow and wow! one each for the three DEALS you got. that Santa is a really really good deal. Last Saturday, there was a clearnace display in the middle of the walmart aisle. I need a pillow but have hesitated because I have several that I bought thinking i could sleep on them and could not, they became dog pillows or prop up in bed to read pillows. the display had a sign that said Pillows 3.99. I felt it and thought if feels like it will work and if it doesn't i will have another prop up pillow. I LOVE IT.. it is perfect and doesnt hurt my neck. i thought that cheap it will not work. it did. now i might by another one to put up in the closet for when this one packs down to tight and goes to be a dog pillow

That trio looks so cute. I like it. As for me, I just bought a rice cooker from Amazon that was $20 cheaper than at Costco. So that was a bargain.

Fred looks so proud to be standing next to Santa!

For that price I don't think I could have resisted him either. Santa will have to rest over the summer so he can be all set to go next year. And what better place to be than your house? I often find an impulse buy at my Rite Aid store. So hard to resist when it is 75 percent off or more.

You love for Christmas decorations, so it is a good purchase for you.

It's been awhile since I made an impulse buy.

Wonderful Christmas trio! That Santa is really great.

I couldn't have resisted 90 percent off, either. And he's really cute!

Great deal! I would have passed just because I don't have the room...but fantastic deals on all three! :)

I had to grin that you could have passed Santa up, but didn't and really, why should you? He is very cute.

Oh I love your impulse purchase. He's perfect and the price is certainly right!
You made me smile with the purchase from CVS. We stopped in to ours a few weeks ago and they had the last 90% sale going on for Christmas too. The only thing I bought was some gnome santa gift tags
for 14 cents..I thought I could handle that! haha. They are so cute.
Fun blog post today.

You did good! How could anyone resist $4.99?

Great additions and for such an amazing mark-down. I did get that third tree I have been talking about but it wasn't as good a deal, 60% off though and I was a happy camper :)

Sometimes after season items can be bought at bargain prices. You did well and the Santa is a fun purchase.

Our CVS had the same Santa, but it must have been earlier in the sales spectrum, because he was stil at least 25$. You were the right people at the right time.

I'm sure Santa appreciates that he's now in a nice cosy home rather than on a dusty pharmacy shelf! And he's no longer humiliated by the 90 per cent discount and the desperate attempt to get rid of him!

What lovely post dear Dorothy :)

Beware I am going to steal your snowman lol oh my look at the cutest smile 😍

Yes rarely but it hap that we buy thing that was n in the list. Like in our trip prior to the previous when we just encountered with a handbag that was not needed at time as I had bought two from sale a week back but bag was green and quite appealing with perfect size and number of pockets including elegant strip. It was cheaper than we bought fr sale. Hubby asked me if I want it as I was holding it to see properly. I took while to decide but hubby did not wait for my nodding and bought :)
Its been 3 years and bag is still in the cabinet used. Waiting for for its turn or may be I liked it enough to just have it :)
Even I could have not resisted to this beautiful Santa!
Great choice.

I'm for all Santas: big, small, tall, short. My liking of the Santa figure is quite odd, as it is not in our tradition. I suppose it's bringing and distributing gifts is a universal trait that attracts liking.

Good buy

That sure was a bargain but that's not decluttering. I'm trying to get rid of 'stuff'. I threw out old pyjamas recently. It makes me feel good, funnily enough. We have a new "Cheap Shop" open near us recently.I think you call them "Dollar Stores". I bought a cheap wall thermometer there because I dropped the last one and broke it.

That was a great find, at a great price. I'm glad you rescued him, because it's kind of sad to think he was still sitting on the shelf all alone. Now he has a good home. Happy new week. Hugs-Erika

I think those are bargains you can't really resist (of course I'm talking about myself too lol) Great finds!

What a great deal on the Santa. And I love the trio, but also the prices!
YES, I did recently buy some deeply discounted Christmas items at Michaels... clear glass balls (which I might paint) and more small artificial trees. I lost count how many we actually have now.

That's a cute Santa! I really kind of want you to invite one of your small child relatives to visit so you can take a picture of the two of them together. I'm not much of a shopper and we live in very small spaces -- so I don't buy too much on impulse. But we still seem to have an awful lot of "stuff." I do think that if you bought something that size when you were walking you really wanted and needed it!
