Friday Funnies

They're back in Nashua, NH — the 2021 Downtown Scarecrows.

More than two dozen local businesses, nonprofits and schools are participating this year, which seems a bit less than previous years. Here's a sampling of ones on Main Street this week.
Yes, there's more and these are only a handful of colorful and fun scarecrows which will remain in place for the next several weeks leading up to Halloween. On our downtown walk last night, it quickly was becoming too dark to take photos of all.
Unfortunately, there isn't an entry from Clocktower Place, the mill apartment complex where we live. For a couple of years, we were joined by a couple other residents in fashioning an entry. However, due to lack of overall resident interest, building management hasn't participated for the past couple of years.
There is a $75 entry charge to those participating. The only items provided are a wood frame and a burlap head. Costumes and other decorative items are provided by the participants. Some of the scarecrows are quite imaginative showing a lot of creative effort.
Online voting ends on Halloween and winners will be announced Nov. 1. The voting page didn't show any actual prizes, so it may just be bragging rights again this year.
This is not the entire downtown scarecrow collection. More photos will be posted next week.

Blogging has taken a backseat to other things this week. We've been staying close to home, so there's a backlog of adventures to post about. These include visits to a military museum, watch and clock museum, hot air balloons, historic inn, and a very unusual roadside attraction.

Meanwhile, fall foliage is peaking in northern parts of the state. We're planning a weekend road trip, weather permitting.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
Look for scarecrows, pumpkins and autumn colors

We've been admiring pumpkin people around here as we pass through Plainfield Township. There are scarecrows in Lebanon too. In Windsor VT people seem to favor the blow up Halloween decorations.
Friends from MD arrive on the 21st and we hope there are still leaves for them to see.

Our community got into this a bit last year. I'll have to go downtown to see if there is as similar effort this year.

I always enjoy seeing these scarecrows. Thanks for posting so many of them. Not much fall foliage around here. Maybe in another month. Enjoy your trip!

I always enjoy seeing these, they are pretty amazing to me and lots of talented people creating them. if i were voting for my favorite of these, it would be the pumpkin man, center of 2nd collage.

I used to pass a school that had an entire crop of scarecrows in their front yard every fall. Every class must have made multiples. Those are some neat ones. I love the Cub Scout.

Wonderful scare-people! Just keep on posting, and sometime or another is fine! I seem to have a lot at times, other times I go back through the photos to see what I missed.

So glad to see decorations again. I'm going to walk over to the blocks where there have been lots of decorations in the past. I know there's no party this year, but hoping for fun house decorations. If I see them, there will be a post.

They are fabulous scarecrows. What a fun tradition. You sure have been getting around. Good for you. We are being quite lazy now and can't be bothered travelling much.

Saturday would have been a bust here, but Sunday should be good. Hope you get to go leaf peeping because things change so quickly and too soon it's over. Fun scarecrows for the streets downtown. The only one I don't like is corona head.

Beatrice, Love the scarecrows dominating your Halloween landscape! Great way to promote the Holiday and the town too... No trick or treaters here, at least not for the past 12 Halloweens we've lived here. We're an open community but there are no sidewalks and little lighting for any kids to use. Despite these facts, my better half always buys a couple bags of candy...just in case! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Haha I love the covid scarecrow, although they are all good in their own ways. I don't celebrate Halloween but I have noticed that the UK are following in the footsteps of Americans and getting into it in a much bigger way every year.
