And So It Came . . .

There was no White Christmas in Nashua, NH, instead it was a very warm and wet morning which did away with the 11-inch snowfall a week or so earlier.

And, Christmas was not cancelled this year despite what some people said, including a prime
minister (who shall remain nameless).

To borrow some lines from How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Theodor Seuss (Dr. Seuss): It came without ribbons! It came without tags! It came without packages, boxes or bags . . . Maybe Christmas (he thought) doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.

Despite not having large gatherings of family and friends, many of us had what we needed, each other. To quote Lou Lou Who, also from the Grinch tale: It isn't about the gifts . . . I don’t need anything more for Christmas than this right here. My family.

And, even though the Grinch told Cindy Lou Who, They'll be no sad faces at Christmas, there were many as we remembered family, friends and others we would not be seeing during the holidays.

But, thanks to modern technology, our family, like many others, was able to be together and connect, not in person, but online this year. We shared gift openings, meals, and just the joy of seeing one another at Christmas.
The RI grandkids visited with Grandpa on Christmas Eve in a FaceTime chat.
Christmas Day
started with an early a.m. FaceTime video to watch them open gifts we sent. Thankfully, deliveries made it on time and they waited until Christmas to open them.
After our video visit, Grenville made a delicious breakfast of baked French toast, which we enjoyed for more than one breakfast. This was a much easier recipe done in the oven and not stovetop with milk, eggs, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg , vanilla and topped with almonds and powdered sugar. (It was so good that we had it again this week for dinner.)

This was a Christmas to be remembered, but not because of unhappy times. We decorated, sent cards, baked cookies, and got together (at a distance) with family and friends — different of course, but still joyous and filled with memories.

We hope you shared some happy holiday time with family and friends.

Looks like technology worked well for you.

One correction: the snowstorm arrived on Dec 17th one week before Christmas, not two weeks! How I remember? It was a birthday present for me!

I am happy that you were able to connect with family members, as you celebrated Christmas. We saw photographs on Facebook of some of our family members, as they celebrated Christmas at their respective homes. We exchanged text messages with some, and we did get together on Christmas Day with Bob’s sister and her husband via Zoom.

That’s great and a good idea to set it up on the TV screen. I’m glad you were able to gather virtually and enjoy family,

I imagine that we will remember this Christmas better than most as the others will tend to blend together.

Great to have connections through facetime and zoom...and seeing the youngsters open your gifts!

thank goodness for zoom and facetime, took away the sadness of not being together. the tech world let kids see their parents that are away in the military and families see each other, even from death beds in ICU... i for one am happy we have them. you had a blessed and awesome Christmas with your family. my favorite is the young lady standing up by the tree

We Brits don't go in for french toast. It sounds rather wonderful (bread soaked in eggs and typically milk, then pan fried). Must try it some time! Glad you had a good Christmas despite all the virus restrictions.

What fun! Yes, there is no way to cancel Christmas! It appears you had a fabulous time even though you couldn't all be together.

I love French toast! You did great getting together online and enjoy Christmas that way. Such a good idea to meet for present opening. I should have thought of that, my mum would have enjoyed this very much but to be honest, we are not very good with online family meetings. Happy New Year to you both x

Yes, it was so different. But good. I told my kids that we will have Christmas all together even if it's a hot summer day when we can! Can't wait.

It rained here on Christmas Eve but it turned to snow overnight and we had a white Christmas. As I shovelled my driveway and the sidewalk, I am not sure I thought it was all that great! Technology is a wonderful way to stay in touch with distant friends and relatives, especially when I think back to the days of expensive long distance telephone calls, and we have always had friends and family overseas. Many will not be sad to close the door on 2020, and look forward to 2021 with renewed hope. I hope it is a good year for all of us, for our fellow creatures on this blue dot, for a renewed effort to safeguard our environment and to pass on a better world to those who follow. Miriam and I send you our best wishes for a happy and healthy 2021.

Modern technology really is a miracle. Even though you couldn't visit your family in person, you were still able to share treasured memories together - - safely and without the trouble of having to go out. I'm glad you had a joyful Christmas.
I've never heard of baked French toast, but it looks good.
All the best for a blessed New Year!

Beatrice, We were able to Zoom with family as well...but its just not the same as being there and spending quality time bugging our son and our grandchildren! Fortunately, like yourselves, my wife and I actually like each other and enjoy spending time together... Looking forward to 2021! Stay Safe and Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

A belated happy Christmas and a happy New Year to you. Thanks for dropping in and commenting on my blog. It's good to have made a new blog friend this year. Like you, I Zoomed with my family on Christmas Day but then a few days later we met for a walk, so that was fun. No hugs though. We'll need to make up for that one day!

I agree, Christmas was Definitely different, but definitely wonderful! You are great at taking pictures from your video chats, something I’ve never really thought of doing. So nice of your Gkids to open your presents on Zoom, I am impressed! That oven baked French toast sounds wonderful, a great idea.

Looks like you all got to enjoy a Christmas connection, it's different but that's good too. Wishing you both a happy and healthy 2021.

I love the positivity in this post. So lovely that you had a good Christmas. I have to admit that I felt sad onChristmas Eve (which is the important part of Christmas for us) because we missed our daughter - tjis was the first Christmas without her. But we knew that she had a good time with my brother-in-law's family, so all was good. Have a happy and healthy 2021.

It sounds like a lovely Christmas given the times. All were safe and well, and there were smiles and color and connection. Next year it will be different but you did it right! I'm glad you could be together in whatever way possible. Happy New Year!
