Do you have a favorite local old-fashioned type of eatery — one that's open early with breakfast specials and a board outside letting you know about them ? The Sunrise Luncheonette on Main Street in Somerville, NJ, is just such a place — open only for breakfast and through lunch, and it's in a great corner location, directly across from the county courthouse.
We frequent IHOP when traveling, but not IF we can find a local place which is our first choice — folks are friendly, seats are well-worn, coffee is very good with plentiful refills.
PLUS, breakfast is bountiful and soooo good — there were no leftovers (as you can see).

Dorothy,
We have such a restaurant...it is called The Whistle Stop Cafe. It used to be on Main Street, Kennesaw, across from the RR tracks. Thus the name. But a mean old landlord who is known as Wild Man, did not renew the lease so they moved a little further away. But we still manage to go there quite often.
Like you say, this is also a very friendly place and the coffee and iced tea are wonderful.
there might be one here, but if so i don't know about it. this place looks good. this is the type place we stopped for breakfast back in the late 50's when we traveled the 12 hours from GA to KY....
I LOVE breakfast. One of my favorite things is Hashbrowns with American cheese melted over them.
That looks like a really nice place. Thank you so much for sharing.
The Dinky Doo Diner is the place for breakfast here. I love a good fry up occasionally.
We have Lou's dinner. For a while one of the cooks would create a pancake that was so large that you couldn't eat it all. The plate was never big enough.
These are the best kind of places to find when you're traveling!
Looks like a great place! I love breakfast and especially pancakes to eat out because I rarely make them at home.
breakfast is my favorite meal!!
Well, now you did it. I just finished my lovely carb free dinner and now I'm STARVING. I love the mom-and-pop places, too. I want to drive cross country only stopping in places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives!
