Some folks grow flowers, some grow vegetables, others grow both. And, then there are those folks who plant other things . . .
Like a field of colorful plastic flamingoes.
This very colorful group was seen a few months ago on a road trip stop somewhere in Maine.
Flamingo and flamboyance come from words referring to fire. Flamingo is from the Spanish and Portuguese flamengo, which literally mean, flame-colored. Flamboyance comes from French, meaning to flame or flair.
So, now I know (and so do you).
As a fellow blogger noted this post follows a river of yellow rubber duckies here last weekend. And, as another astutely noted, it can lead to feeling in the pink (sorry for the colorful pun.)

What fun! When we lived in Maine we had a friend who loved to put pink flamingoes in our yard at the strangest times. Especially in the snow. Then we all moved to Florida and they moved close to us and we still shared flamingoes back and forth for birthdays, etc., and I also have a lot of flamingo ornaments for my Christmas tree, thanks to this friend. I'd say she is rather "flamboyant"...LOL. Thanks for the info. Of course down here we see them out everywhere in October for Breast Cancer awareness month. Seems to be the mascot for that...

When I was very little (probably about 3 years old) my mom put two flamingoes on our front lawn. It was the thing to do in the mid 1950s. Seeing this post reminded me of that. What a fun post! Hope you had a good time on your trip.

What a lovel, funnyy sight! Still it is plastic, and we are not to encourage production of plastic items, if I understand correctly those worried about climate change.
Love the installation of plastic flamingos. I would enjoy doing that but my neighbors are fuddy duddy people.

Beatrice, I did not know that a flock or gathering of flamingos was referred to as a flamboyance! Interesting and right on! I decided to see what other names are given to groups of animals. Some are right on point and others seem a bit obtuse. Apes - Shrewdness; Cheetah - Coalition; Cockroach - Intrusion and the list goes on and on. Cockroach certainly fits, don't you think?!
