We remembered the scene in the classic film, A Christmas Story after the family's Christmas turkey is ravaged by a neighbor's dogs:
The heavenly aroma still hung in the house. But it was gone, all gone! No turkey! No turkey sandwiches! No turkey salad! No turkey gravy! Turkey Hash! Turkey a la King! Or gallons of turkey soup! Gone, ALL GONE!"There were no animals involved, yet we too had no turkey leftovers.
Thankfully before the holiday, we bought a small turkey that Grenville cooked yesterday. Our "traditional" sides were mashed sweet potatoes (with maple syrup), the classic green bean casserole, and homemade cranberry sauce, but no stuffing (this time).
Now, we have leftovers for all things turkey this week.
This is why we gave up stuffing — to enjoy pumpkin pie for dessert!

The film is based on short stories and semi-fictional anecdotes of author Jean Shepherd and based on his book In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash. The film is based on some of his funniest and most well known stories.
The film is in our holiday video collection. We watched it last night and enjoyed pumpkin pie with egg nog, another holiday classic — for us.

I would gladly give up the pumpkin pie for the stuffing.
According to my parents, when I was young, I thought turkey was the stuffing.
bob loves left overs, all that you described here. I only love them because I don't have to COOK, just re heat re cycle. since we ate out we had no left overs. this is how a person who hates to cook has left overs.
buy two big fat rotisserie chickens from Publix and take off the bone, place in plastic container.
make Bob's famous potato stuffing, total time to make, 40 minutes including cooking.
Brussel sprouts steamed
Cranberry who berry out of a can
bought sweet potato pie...
Use as though leftovers.,
I am cooking pies and anything else that can be done ahead today. We are having Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow.
A Christmas Story is one of our most-favorite movies. We watch it every year!
I'm actually indifferent to turkey. Pumpkin pie, on the other hand... I'll have three slices.
I will take the stuffing over the pumpkin pie.
I brought home some turkey and stuffing from the kids so I could have leftovers. Brought home little pieces of the desserts also. No, no, no, I would have the stuffing and the pumpkin pie, a little of the lemon bars and white chocolate cupcakes too. Hugs, lj
We have been eating Thanksgiving leftovers over and over again since that day....and loving it every time!! Love it that you made a turkey and fixings after the day :)
Corey and Christy watch that movie as they wrap gifts Christmas Eve. I watched it for the first time last year....was just cracking up over and over again. Can't believe I never made an attempt to see it before that!
You guys in US have one extended celebration. It lasts from Thanksgiving until Christmas. Way to go. The turkey wing looks like my kind of left overs.
That looks like a great tasting pumpkin pie.
Looks yummy!
TBS loops that Christmas Story movie all day on Christmas Day - we keep it on. I love the Bumpis's dogs. :)
