SQUASHED and More . . .

We’re being over-squashed, but NOT as in being suppressed, beaten, squeezed, stepped on, flattened, tromping through mud . . .

None of that, we’re squashed in yellow, and green with LOTS of yellow squash, zucchini, and soon butternut squash growing in the Frog & PenguINN veggie garden thanks to Grenville’s green thumb(s) and fingers.

HOW fast are things growing?
yellow squash0623 (2)Last week, the yellow squash plant looked like this.

Just visible are several small yellow squash, and they do grow fast !

garden bounty0628 (1)This was the harvest that, Grenville delivered today, several yellow squash and a cucumber.
In the past week, we’ve picked and eaten red lettuce, spinach, zucchini, beets, scallions, and red onions.
Tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, carrots, beans, corn, cauliflower, are not ready for picking yet – hopefully they won’t all be ready at once.
Farmer Grenville has really been busy taking care of the gardens, especially watering as we had a serious lack of rain until recently. I’m an assistant weeder, picker, cook, and consumer.
From left-right: beets, beans, red lettuce (top), spinach (below).

This is the corn patch though not quite as high as an elephant’s eye (Oh What a Beautiful Morning from the 1955 musical, Oklahoma)
The corn is as high as an elephant's eye,
An' it looks like it's climbin' clear up to the sky.

Grenville is over-anxious to make a BLT (bacon-lettuce-tomato) sandwich with just tomatoes and lots of mayo on white bread – is there any other way?

Here’s an overview of the Frog & PenguINN vegetable garden.

I think your veggie plot is bigger than my lot.

You both have green and yellow thumbs. It all looks so great. Good farming practices pay off as evidenced from your photos.

Your garden looks great! I have a few small zucchini set on and will have to watch then closely. They very quickly get out of hand! I've got small tomatoes growing and we've been picking a few snap peas and chard almost ready. Of course, my herb pots have been doing well and I've been cutting from them. Mostly I visit our farmers market and get what I need there, especially the tomatoes. You just can't get anything that tasty in the supermarket.

Nothing like eating from your own garden. Actually got enough blueberries the other day to make a pie! What fun...

Everything looks so fine! I haven´t even dug my vegetable garden yet :-) :-) But I must do it this weekend so I can plant my potatoes anyway :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

Your garden looks fantastic! Nothing beats the taste of home-grown vegetables straight from the garden.

Thanks ALL for the wonderful and very nice comments about our garden. Just about all of the credit goes to Grenville who really does a great job planting, watering and tending...and then eating the results.

Elaine (Country Girl) we have given some away already. Yes, I will post some ways we've been using yellow squash and zucchini for breakfast and dinner.

AC, you are right - we have 3/4 of an acre here.

Elaine, wanna trade some veggies? We didn't plant peas this year and the small amount of swiss chard is not doing well. Tomatoes should be ready by next week - Grenville is hoping. I think I saw him with a red paintbrush the other day!

Larry, our thumbs and other fingers are very colorful after working in the garden.

WOW Possum, we're jealous that you have blueberries cause ours died and enough to make a pie too!

Hey Christer, time to get planting so you can enjoy fresh veggies before all that snow comes back!

Thanks Daisy and you are so right about nothing beating the taste of home-grown...and the price too!
