Friday Funnies

This first post for 2025 is a Friday Funnies of 2026 featuring some NYC iconic bird life.

Perhaps, this flock (or flight) was waiting for the traffic light to change as city traffic can be quite dangerous.

Contrary to what some popular opinion, pigeons are far from being bird-brained. They have shown impressive memory and problem-solving skills and are well known for their intelligence and navigation skills. It's been shown that pigeons can learn complex tasks, can recognize themselves in mirrors, learn abstract concepts, distinguish words from nonsense; trained pigeons have been able to identify cancer in medical images. (Who knew?)

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
Are you planning to un-decorate?
We're leaving our decos up until at least mid-January.

Good morning I agree pigeons are very intelligent just so you know I did a scan on my computer for any issues etc-and now I back with google issues again-can't get to the edit page so I can write a blog again-frustrating for sure.

A pigeon pooped on me the last time I was in NYC. Fortunately, it landed on the back of my raincoat and I was able to clean it off, but it was gross.
I'll slowly start taking down the decorations tomorrow. It will likely take me a week.

Fun photo! 😂
Un-decorating is finished. Funny though, when putting away boxes, I checked my old 1976 suitcase, and I found my Christmas sweater. 🤣

We had a large, longtime pigeon population on my farm but bird flu took most of them. A few survived so I'm sure they will flourish as time goes by. Not much decor to put away. Ah, Leonard Cohen.......

Anyone who thinks pigeons are dumb are saying something about themselves! Could they travel hundreds of miles to a tiny destination, deliver messages then turn around and find their way home again, no maps, no electronics?

Sue will probably start de-decorating slowly once she starts feeling better, but some of her decs will still be appropriate for winter. The next big phase will be for Valentines.

Quite a few pigeons visit the garden here ... thank you for the added information about them.

My Christmas decorations are all down and put away ready for Christmas 2026.

Enjoy your weekend.

What would a city be without pigeons? They are welcome in my world.
