Friday Funnies

Signs always fascinate me because of what they read and the wording used on them to convey a message. For example, this one where apparently nothing less would do:
It made me wonder if using words like completely or totally would have had the same effect. But then they might have been harder to understand and longer as well.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
Happy Mother's Day 💐 to those celebrating on Sunday

I know I see a lot of interestingly worded signs that make you wonder who was in charge of that job! LOL. Anyway, I hope you have a pleasant and joyous Mother's Day weekend. We will be celebrating here with our kids. Very thankful to have our grandson and his fiancee' still with us, and our 2 sons and our daughter in law will be here too. I am a very happy mama right now! (and Grandma!). Happy Friday!

Happy mother's day! I hadn't realized it's coming up, but since my son is working that day, I won't see him. He'll be in touch, I expect.

Well.... OK! But you'd think they might try a different approach!

Just one tiny period would help.

I assume this is supposed to be a nicer way, politically correct? in place of the NO SMOKING signs of the past. I also wonder if any pays attention to this sign.

Sandra, that is a good point and one which I had not thought of before😀

Greetings from Viola.
I wish you a happy Mother's Day too.
We're also celebrating the town festival here with us from today to Sunday... lots of music, I'm looking forward to it.

Happy Mother's Day to you too.
Our language is rather strange and how things are worded sure can make a difference.
It's like the news report that says Someone was shot in the garage..think about it...

Very funny. How can it be 100%?

Good point. I suspected a blooper or misspelling. I was wrong.

I know I use superlatives on blogs more than I do in speech. Somehow I guess I hope it will convey my meaning more. I'm probably 100% or at least very wrong!

The 100% sounds more emphatic.
I live in a "smoke free" building but they are regularly having to put up notices about having to be 20 feet from the apartment and using the designated area (which you can't get to through the snow in the winter and no cover for the rain) and not smoking on your balconies or patios and not smoking in your apartment. Even not smoking in your garage was mentioned once. As a former smoker (been 34 years) that sounded a bit extreme considering our weather here in the winter and if it is pouring rain...because they don't want people to have their cars sitting out all the time in the parking lot, either. They have to threaten eviction once in a while. As a former smoker--why in the world would you move into a smoke-free apartment building in the first place?! Baffles me!

some notices are so funny!

Hahahahahaha! Clear as mud, or a smokey day!

Well that is one way of telling you!

If it's not 100% then it's not smoke free, is it? The "100%" is completely superfluous. I'm always amused at the recorded message on trains which says "Make sure you take all your personal belongings with you" - what other sort of belongings can you have apart from personal ones?

Beatrice, One sign that always gets our attention is
SLOW
CHILDREN
AT PLAY
Are the children really slow? I'm not sure how to improve this signage but there must be a way. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

I 100% get it 😄

And inevitably there are those who don't read it.

I like the signs in aircraft that warn you not to try smoking in the toilets as you'll be detected immediately.

It really highlights the importance of punctuation.

Funny you should mention this old TV. I was thinking about it the other day and wondered how to watch it. Don't ask me why this show. And you asked in your comment on my blog if I get compensated for the bees. Because it's too late in the season (mainly because the season starts in March but since we're so far north I can't get bees until the end) to get more bees, they do reimburse me. Have a great weekend. hugs-Erika

Ok, wow, 100%!! Got it. Not like, 90% where you could smoke at the bar. Or 50% where it could mean every other floor. haha!! Seems on this sign they could have put some separation between 'smoke free' and 'designated..', or made that info slightly smaller.
Signs can be interesting!
