Spellcheck, anyone?
Two identical notices were posted at the front registers in the local CVS retail pharmacy last week. Both with the same misspelling which was mentioned to the cashier, who told me that no one else had commented. (I didn't return this week so don't know if they were still posted.)

Perhaps no one else knew! My oldest grandson communicates with me quite frequently and I am always very happy that he writes well with good sentence structure, grammar and spelling, and refrains from using those awful abbreviations so many seem to favour.
I would probably just see the sign in passing, feel that something is not right, shake my head and move on, without thinking it through.
It’s everywhere. Honestly, sometimes I notice that people don’t even know the right word, such as using half mass instead of half mast for flags.
Misspelled sentences can create some disturbance to passing eyes indeed dear Dorothy.

If they'd written "incovidience" it would have been funny and deliberate. I think it was just ignorant!

Well, what do you expect in this day of schools not really teaching proper spelling, grammar, or even cursive writing? Many teens today cannot read anything in cursive. It's very sad indeed.
Beatrice, A sad sign of the times. Kids and many 'educated' young adults can's spell or don't check their work. Then there is cursive writing, even our grandsons, can't read cursive, exactly why Laurie and I write cursive notes to them... i looked at the photo and did not even notice the misspelling until I read your words. these days if its readable it works. we are all so used to auto correct and its antics, we just read and go on. i have to admit i am losing my spelling ability. I go to write a word and can't remember how to spell it. if i spell it out loud like a spelling bee sometimes that helps.
Incovidience was my immediate thought also.
I'm a terrible speller but I do notice other people's mistakes-at least if its a word I can spell. I got this one. Stay warm. Winter is here.

If they can't spell simple words, I wonder how many prescriptions they get wrong.....
Well, is it had been written in cursive, not too many people would have been able to read it anyway.... *sigh*
I think a verb are should be added as it is hard to read anyway.
There's a shop here that opened up last week. For awhile their windows had banners saying "please sends your resume."
As a teacher I will say that this phenomenon is the result of "inventive spelling". That is spelling with sounds only. It has destroyed correct spelling in our country!!

A minor omission , but as a previous commenter wrote: sign of the time - bad writing skill.
We see misspelled words in signs too. People are not good spellers these days, too much reliance on auto spell checker.

Bad spelling is a bugbear with me. It always has been. Unfortunately, it's a sign of the times, I think.

My sons can't read my grocery list in cursive writing - I have to send it in a text message even when they are sitting right beside me!

No problem at all Dorothy! LOL, I really was going to retype the misspelling on purpose, but I couldn't stand seeing the redline under the wrong word, so I had to re-do the whole sentence. Haha, we share the same sense of humor on bad spelling, even if nobody else in the world would even notice )))
