Warm weather events in small towns on the VA Eastern Shore usually involve weekend festivals. We can usually find at least one open-air event somewhere in a neighboring town. This weekend was no exception; a short drive (about 9 miles) took us to Parksley, VA for its annual town festival. There was something for everyone — yard sales, amusement rides, AND classic cars.
Vintage cars are almost ALWAYS a staple at these summer events. Grenville and I never tire of seeing them. There’s always a lot of interesting models from classics to unusual and LARGE. Best of all, it’s FREE too.
Hoods are often popped open to show off the engine sizes, which are impressive. There’s always interesting details to see on these classics, both outside . . .
And inside . . .Modern cars lack the largesse of these classics — BIG grills and back fins — were all the rage back then. That’s how we spent part of our weekend, aside from the usual chores of grass cutting, yard work, and grocery shopping.
WHAT happened on your weekend ?

just the cars would be fine with me... i love old cars.. my first car was a 56 chevy, aqua and white, 2 door. with that giant steering wheel like the next to last collage. i am wondering if the to SS with flames were his and her since they look like a matching pair
Glad to see a '56 Ford. My car in high school & college was a blue & white '56 Ford Fairlane 4-door hardtop. Good acceleration and lousy brakes. It's a wonder I survived. Sold it to buy a '66 MGB a month before my wedding. My dad collected antique cars (had about 20) so attending car shows and driving on tours was commonplace.
Lee loves to go see those old cars, too.
What fun! Love those vintage cars!!
Looks like a fun outdoor event! My son graduated from high school today, so we were at the commencement ceremony this afternoon! :)
Nice! And it's great that you have so many festivals and events nearby - that would be fun!
ooohhhh i just love those classic car shows. there was a local one this weekend but it was just too hot to walk around!!
we had a super hot weekend but are getting rain now. now we are expcting cooler temperatures!!
We all ave memories tied to the car we or our family had at the far-back romanticized era. Grenville and I shared the memory of Hillman Minx - his a convertible, if I remember right, and mine a sedan. His ran, mine just got me able to change a transmission in a driveway!
Thanks for the nice photos - looks like a perfect day to walk the park and people watch.
How I love car shows! Music, cars, they mark out lives and times, don't they?
Looks like fun.
I get a bit bored at car shows but I've been Parksley. It's a nice town!
