BERRY BERRY Good

An earlier post in late April showed and described what was going on in the m-u-c-h downsized Frog & PenguINN gardens this year. At that time, we were already enjoying the asparagus planted 3 years ago. We’ve harvested it a few times since then and used it in salads and omelets and stir fry as well.

This week’s harvest was a couple bowls of fresh strawberries . . .

IMG_2051These were great with some sugar sprinkled on them adding them  atop oatmeal. Our MOST favorite way to enjoy them fresh is in a strawberry smoothie; it’s like having a milkshake for breakfast.

And, what’s wrong with that?

Yep, mine are ripe, too. Sadly, I can only eat a few... eat too many and - instant hives. sigh. But I have to indulge a little anyway.

So good to et your food straight from the garden.
Being in autumn, we have potatoes, rhubarb, Jerusalem artichokes and silver beet. I really must get my peas and broad beans in pronto.

I am envious. It will be a good while before we get to eat any of these. The nurseries have the bare root strawberries in and I need to get some planted in my hanging baskets, and then wait....

We don't have any strawberry plants, but several farms nearby have fields of strawberries. We stopped at one and picked 2 huge boxes full. We ate strawberries, I made pies, and I froze a bunch.

If I buy a punnet of strawberries I have to eat the lot at one sitting!

Hi Mildred & Mona, we are enjoying these berries.

Elaine (County Girl) lucky to have a nearby source.

Eileen (Cicero Sings) ours will be gone whe you aree enjoying some.

Yes, Lois...very YUM!

Possum, indulge a little!

Hi Arija, nothing like eating your own produce. Thanks for the visit.

Steve, chocolate dipped sounds like a good idea!

Elaine, like Eileen, you too will have some when ours are gone.

Daisy, we agree!

Ginnie, we would share if they could jump off the screen.

Hey Mary (SVB) strawberry pie is something Grenville wanted to try this year, but we keep eating the main ingredient.

Doris, we are very fortunate to grow our own.

John, we eat ours within a day of picking.
