Home Again

YEP!!! we made it home yesterday afternoon. After a sensible lunch stop in Salisbury Md.
BUT Tuesday found us in the mall in Lancaster at the Apple store. and let me tell ya that a morning there can really work up an appetite. Especially after  such a disappointing dinner at that 5 schmucks place. So we decided that we needed a more rewarding lunch experience. The mall there is layer out sort of like a wagon wheel with 5 spokes. In the center is an assortment of eatery's. Not wanting to be gluttons, we chose just three for a culinary extravaganza.

Our appetizer was a nice Chocolate peanut butter twist from the Chilly Penguin (how could we resist????). Mine was dipped in Chocolate.

Next was an all time American Classic from Cinnabon. And to enhance this gastronomic delight, a cup of coffee.

We both swore not to step on the scale for the next week, but have already broken that promise. All i will say is there will be many trips to the "Y" over the next few weeks.

Thanks so much for being part of our Easter Trip. SPECIAL thanks to Doris for being brave enough to meet and have coffee with us Tuesday morning, and giving us such a nice report card....

Notes from the Road

Blogger friend ( and HS buddy) Old Bikerider suggested Louis Lunch in New Haven for a lunch stop. Unfortunately Louis' seems to be on a school holiday schedule (or is really the Easter Bunny and closed the week before and the week after Easter). Yes, they were closed yesterday, they are now just 'on the list'.
The 6 hour trip turned into a 10 hour adventure. The shortcut over the GW Bridge which should have SAVED us an hour added 1.5 hours, but we got a really great view(slowly) of the famous Bronx. And we learned that over 100 different roads all merged into 3 lanes to cross the bridge. Now I'm not sure but it seems that merging in NYC is either done at a crawl or lightning speed.
When we finally got to NJ (a scary thought in itself) I decided that since we lost so much time on a travel decision I made, we should take the advice of Mandy, our GPS and take the NJ Turnpike. Something I the back of my head said "turn at 287", but after the GWB disaster I dismissed the thought. WRONG!!!!!!! Remember all those nice folks we merged with at the GW bridge????? Well we met again on the Turnpike. By now we were committed to our route, and soon would be on the PA Turnpike.
Somehow we ended up on Rt 202, and (you guessed it) another MERGE!!!! I'm wondering if there is some cosmic connection between merge and emergency???? Did I mention that Mandy lost her mind during this???? Ten hours later we turned into our favorite (?) Days Inn.
Hungry and tired I decided (really not the time for decisions) that since we missed Louis Lunch we should give Five Guys a try, and pass along our thoughts on whether you should make a stop.......... DON'T!!!!!!
The dream of a nice fat juicy burger will remain just that, a dream, as you leave 5 Guys. Two thin, over cooked things (possibly held together with a Pink Slime derivative) on a bun (even with bacon and American cheese??) did not fulfill the dream. But the fries were pretty good. Unfortunately I left still dreaming (and drooling) for that big juicy burger. Fudruckers, you have nothing to worry about here.

Easter Road Trip

We’re hopping down the bunny trail and heading on our first road trip this year – another holiday visit since the 2011 post-Christmas trip. Our travels will take us through several east coast states with family stops and we’re looking forward to meeting fellow blogger, Doris, in PA. All these stopovers and visits will take about a week of road tripping.

Granddaughter is nearly 8-1/2 months old and cuter since we last saw her in Dec. Here's a recent photo sent to us. No updated photo of grandson. But, we will see both grandkids during our 2-day visit with them.

Planned activities include Easter egg coloring; this time, grandson is older and knows that colored water is not for drinking. Grandpa will surely give pointers on how to cover a hard boiled egg with mayo before eating.

Easter Sunday will bring an egg hunt with surprises that do NOT involve sweets. It was fun searching local thrift stores for surprises that include a DVD movie, kite, toy tractors (green ones, of course) and toy cars. Later, we all go to visit family in CT.

Wednesday Wonderments

They got to the Easter Bunny!!!! Maybe i was just semi conscious as Christmas became over commercialized. The old thought that "it's what's in your heart not what's in your hand" somehow got reversed, and then gift wrapped and came from "The Mall" instead of the North Pole. AHHHH Madison Ave,,, what a place....

But the other day we were walking through a 'large chain drug store' and saw the abomination of Easter.

That's right Folks, rainbow colored peeps. What ever happened to just traditional yellow chicks???? Happy little marshmallow blobs with enough sugar to cause instant diabetic shock. A few of those bad chicks could raise the dead..... AH YES!!!!! those were the days. When the chicks were yellow, and the rainbow colors were left to the jelly beans and boiled eggs. When three days after the last little yellow peep had been devoured the kids were still bouncing off the walls .
I'm wondering what holiday they will change next????? I'm hoping my birthday!!!!!!!

Another test

Well this time I'm using the app for an iPhone. It found the pictures but they don't want to pop up into the text.
OK here is my new old iPad in its pretty case.
And the next two are of the Android it is replacing.
Now for the big Test of publishing and seeing where the pics end up since there is no preview on this.

This is a test !!!!!!!!

Well this started out as a test but has failed utterly (even the cow is embarrassed). So what is the problem??? I finally have succumbed to the iPad fever. BUT not the newest one. Yes it is great but I don't do gaming, graphics, music composition. The dictation feature is nice but I rewrite almost everything I do so that is out. Soooo I now have a refurbished iPad2. This will now be my road 'puter. Some great pluses were figuring out the cloud (if that is possible) and having the iPad connect to the MacBook and the iPod and all of them get together and connect to each other. Really cool. Change something on one calendar, or in to-do, or add a contact and poooffff!!!!! It's on all of them. Take a picture with any one of them and pooooffff again. It's on all of them.The problem is with blogger.....for some reason when I try to insert a picture the program can't find where the pictures are on the iPad?. Soooo friends,,,,, does anyone have a solution or work around for this?????? Cut and paste doesn't work. Blogger doesn't have an iPad version yet (but does have an iPhone version). Any ideas will be welcome. Grenville

Do you have a local place that you enjoy exploring?

For us, it’s Market Street Antiques, a local antiques store in the neighboring town of Onancock, VA. The wonderful  old door knobs featured in last week’s Friday Funnies post  were just a few of the items on display in this store.  There’s SO much more . . .The building itself is an antique, and was built in 1913 as a Ford dealership. The original tin ceilings can still be seen.

Before being converted to its current use, the building last housed a hardware store, House of Deals, renowned for having some of the most unusual items, including the pecan cracker I received  a couple of years ago as a Christmas gift. It’s still used when pecan season comes in the fall.

This is a place where time quickly passes checking out the large and varied inventory – always something new – and unusual to see here. The front showroom has over 1,600 sq. feet of antiques and collectibles; the inventory changes frequently too.

The back showroom, where Ford motor cars were once serviced,  has over 2,000 sq. feet of architectural salvage with many one-of-a kind items. Owners Jeff & Christine Miller gathered inventory from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. Jeff specializes in taking down old buildings. Some salvage items are added to the store. Salvaged wood is remade into furniture by Jeff.

There’s a wish list  book where folks can enter items they’re looking for along with contact information. The Millers will notify them if they find any of the items.YES, there’s lots of “stuff” including the bathroom and kitchen sink.
