Fowl Lasagna

lasagna0510 (1)

OK, so you might be thinking (or maybe not)WHAT does chicken have to do with lasagna?

Usually, not a whole lot but this story starts with last night’s dinner. We were going to rotisserie outdoors; however, it was too chilly and windy that  indoor roasting was a better idea, not to mention it warmed the kitchen and smelled great while cooking. But, lots of leftovers from a 5lb+ chicken and leftovers of the same thing, are OK once; twice NOT. Enter the lasagna when today I decided to make a small one (yes, more leftovers, but these can be frozen).

Follow your favorite lasagna recipe (it seems everyone has one) and if not, check out the recipe on a box of lasagna noodles – there’s usually one there – BUT instead of adding chopped meat, use something different, like say leftover diced chicken!

And, the result is Fowl Lasagna.

Life is Just a Bowl of…

bowl of strawberries0510 Fresh Strawberries

Especially when they have been picked fresh from the garden and  delivered by the good friend who grew them.

And, when you have such a bounty, the best thing to do is to make a bowl of…

And that’s exactly how these delectable berries were used for breakfast this morning.

Thanks for good friends (you know who you are)

Home at Last

After beating overwhelming odds we are finally home at last. This has been a horrible ordeal at the hands of the diabolical dastardly cult of the Funsters. They are dedicated to forcing everyone to have fun and enjoy life. What a ridiculous philosophy.

Sorry there are no pictures from our great escape. We were in such a hurry that we forgot.

BUT on the good side (oh no funster thoughts) all of the crops are popping up and doing well, and we are happy!!!!!!!

Tomorrow some crop pics.

On the RUN!!!!!!!

We have escaped and are on the run. Avoiding all main roads and going cross country.

More when we are safe!!!!!!!

OBX Odyssey

footprintAs Grenville has previously posted, this forced captivity was so “terrible” that we were forced to treat ourselves to such hardships like walking along the beach and watching a sunset.
    beach (1)
sunset (1)Even though, it was hard to endure this “forced” captivity these past several days in the Outer Banks of NC, we managed to make the best of a great situation. The weather was perfect, it was the off-season, and we saw a lot of interesting places - definitely worth a return visit !

No OBX visit would be complete without seeing lighthouses, especially the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It’s the tallest lighthouse in the US and not only can you climb the 268 steps, but you get to pay for the privilege too – full details here. The Ocracoke Lighthouse (left) is located on Ocracoke Island . Getting to the island requires a 40-minute ferry ride (free) and your car gets to ride too (also for free).  It’s a good thing you have a car too because once the ferry docks, there is a 10-mile drive into the village.  P1020878
Here’s a few of the folks who travelled with us on the trip. (See if you can figure out how it was taken.)

And The Saga Goes On

It just never seems to end. Still being held captive in paradise, and rescue is no where in sight this morning. Yesterday was a real horror. Early in the morning (10:45 am) we were taken to
another secret location and forced to eat a huge breakfast. We were not allowed to leave, even for the bathroom, till we cleaned our plates. They said it was so that we were so full we could not run away. Then we were loaded into vehicles and made to enjoy roaming through towns on the north end of the beach and dragged through many stores. We were even threatened to be taken to the lighthouse on the far north end but that never materialized.

BUT the worst part was the threat of tortured by having to stay in one of the many beach shacks we were shown. Here are secret photos of some of the worst of the lot. We were terrified that we would be held in the yellow one and forced to enjoy the sight, sound, and even the smell of the ocean for long periods of time.

One of these horrible shabby shacks was built inside a very pretty deck that appears to have had its center mercilessly gutted out. What do these people think of????? What kind of wicked funsters live here????? Could it be the constant exposure to salt air and extreme fun???? OH what a torturous night that would have been. Luckily we were returned to our original location after being fed more fish and hush puppies, and then thrown out on the beach at sunset to walk on the beach. All the time being forced to enjoy it.
We are so worried that it will be contagious and we will still be infected when we finally escape and return home. We may require 'retraining'.
Later this morning we are going to attempt an escape from all this terrible fun we are being forced to endure. How much fun can anyone possible endure?????? It is truly horrendous.
Wish us luck!!!!!!!

And the Forced Fun Goes On

Yes we are still being held and forced to have fun. Yesterday we were forced to ride around all day. After sitting quietly and watching the fog swirl majestically over the ocean in the morning we were made to enjoy the same fog at the first of several lighthouses. We are not allowed to tell the name as you might
figure out where we are and rescue us. In fact they even covered most of the first lighthouse so we wouldn't know where we were. But the Bodies were a good hint!!!! Then they drove us through gorgeous dunes and over some inlet, but the fog obscured it.

The drive went on and on till we got to a ferry. We were forced to enjoy the 40 minute ride to a secret island. While we were on the secret island we were guarded by some of the local inhabitants. They seemed a little feather headed but nice for the most part.

The ultimate came at dinner time when we were forced to eat fish and later home made ice cream. They put us to sleep for the long ride home and this morning woke up in our beds having to listen to the gently crashing of the ocean waves.

They say today they will make us go north and enjoy more stuff..... OH what torture!!!!

Help, Help, We 've been Kidnapped!!!!!

And we are being held in Kill Devil Hills NC. Last night we were forced to sit quietly and listen to the ocean, and this morning we had to enjoy watching the sea fog......

Next we may be taken by ferry to Ocrakoke Island and forced to have fun.

More later.

It's All Happening at the Zoo

Sunday was a warm, beautiful day, so with no particular place to go, we headed for the Salisbury Zoological Park, about an hour and a half drive from the Frog & PenguINN or as they say in these parts "just down the road."

While it's not a large zoo, it has two notable features: it's free (donations gratefully accepted) and open daily, except Christmas Day and Thanksgiving. Otters are one of the zoo's most popular exhibits. Kids and adults crowd around to watch them do laps and back flips. And, in between, one or more will surface and watch the crowds watching them. Flamingoes stand around, look colorful and attract equally large crowds. Imagine standing like this for a few hours!

Some zoo inhabitants could bearly stay awake, and others were in a playful mood.
Imagine playing catch with this big guy?

Numerous nest sites were scattered throughout the park, including these two expectant "moms." All seemed indifferent to the crowds as long as no one tried to get too close. There is no such thing as privacy when nesting in full public view.
