Friday Funnies

Here's something that could be considered a road hazard — a discarded banana peel, which was on the pavement when I stepped out of the car last week.
I avoided this hazard last week
While it's often a cartoon theme, stepping on a banana peel is a real hazard that can result in serious injury. Since I've heard that many times, I wondered why.

According to online sources, it's because its surface is smooth, and when stepped on, the peel can act as a lubricant. This significantly reduces the friction between your shoe and the ground beneath the peel. The lack of friction makes it harder for your foot to get a grip and also makes it difficult to maintain balance as your center of gravity can shift, leading to a loss of stability. Think of it like trying to walk on ice – there's very little friction there as well.

The chances of slipping on a peel are greater than you might think. That's because a banana is considered the world's most popularly eaten fruit with over 100 billion eaten annually.

Good news in Nashua this week was the disappearing snow, thanks to some warm days.

Those recent spring-like days were short-lived as temps are returning to the 30s and 40s this week.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
This weekend is the annual 3-day book sale of the library Friends group

My wife is an avid banana eater. She eats one every morning. Me, not so much. Once in a while I slice one up and add it to my cereal, but it's not my favourite fruit. One thing I can assure you, however, we would never throw our peel on the sidewalk.

Good you didn’t get hurt!
What I watch out for is to remember when wearing leather or synthetic footbed sandals, do not lotion your feet on rainy days or when step in water because lotion and water mix into a Very slippery surface. It is like walking on the worse ice.

Funny you should mention the banana peel today. Just yesterday hubby wanted me to watch with him an old movie clip of Laurel and Hardy, which started out with one of them throwing a banana peel on the sidewalk, and then the baker from the pie bakery stepped out of his bakery and stepped on it and fell and the pie made a mess, and then that started a whole huge pie fight in the street as his truck was loaded with pies and everyone ended up with pie in their faces...all because one of the two threw down the banana peel, and each one blamed the other...it was slapstick silly, but it was fun for a laugh.
Your pictures of the snow, etc. are wonderful. Glad things are looking better now! We are getting cold again here, but still not cold enough for snow! Winter isn't over yet!! Have a lovely weekend.

I don't like bananas, so here's another reason to not eat one! Yes, the spring-like temps were nice while we had them. Yesterday, our cold weather returned. I wish our library still had their book sales, but they stopped during Covid and have never returned.

Both the snow scene and the no snow scene are really nice. I throw my peel in the trash.

Love the snow and ice and no snow and ice. Enjoy before the blast comes back again.
I hope the book sale goes well and everyone finds that special treasure.

I am thinking you are happy to finally see the snow melted away. that is dangerous that someone did not put their peel into a garbage bin-glad you saw it first hugs

Your snow photo is gorgeous! I'm so glad you managed to avoid the banana peel, they always seem to end up right where they shouldn't be!

We always have bananas hanging from the banana keeper in the kitchen.

Stepping/slipping on a banana peel can be nasty.

The snow is pretty but I think I prefer after!

A good portion of our snow left us, but it came back overnight.

I read up about banana peels once a long time ago (when you had to go to the library to do so) because I wondered if the funny papers were being truthful about slipping on them. Hope the second(?) wave of winter doesn't last long and you soon get some of that beautiful blue sky and sunshine back to stay for awhile.... Happy "haul" at the library sale.

Very glad that you didn't get hurt. I didn't know it was the most popular fruit in the world. That's pretty cool. LOOVE the snow shots. So pretty.

I love bananas. I would never carelessly discard a peel that way.
