Nashua Veterans Day

Veterans Day in Nashua, NH, was a low-key celebration in comparison to observances in  other U.S. states and even in other countries. This week, fellow bloggers included posts of commemorations in neighboring Canada and these seemed much grander than here.

In Nashua, there was a downtown parade on Main Street with participants representing various civic and community groups as well as ROTC members. There was also a couple of vintage vehicles.

There's always a large participation by bands from the several high schools and middle school and these youngsters were wonderful to hear.
Although not representative of World War I veterans, this group of colonial soldiers marched along the route and fired their weapons several times.
The parade ended with a fleet of the city's fire trucks and emergency vehicles flashing their lights and blaring the horns.
Afterwards, there was also a brief ceremony at City Hall, which we missed. It was a sunny day, but windy and cold and we headed home.

I love the costumes and there’s nothing better than a parade, we have a ceremony in this small town at the cenotaph, a small parade but a bigger celebration is held in the arena, no costumes here, no bands, I love to hear the bands,

Great pictures of a dignified parade!
We don't have a similar Veterans Day but a Remembrance Day for all the fallen soldiers, and its marked mainly by ceremonies carried out at the military cemeteries over the country.

Sounds like a wonderful day and a great way to remember the fallen and pay tribute to all those who have served.

Your town looks lovely. The buildings, the events you have there, all look beautiful.I enjoyed reading about them all.

It's the colonial era soldier uniforms that draw my eye. Terrific shots!

It’s always a good thing to honor our veterans- especially on Veterans Day!

I like seeing the vintage vehicles. They had a lot of bands in the parade. Our school band is so small that they now ride on a flatbed truck and play standing or sitting, no marching. You were able to see a great parade for Veterans Day.

Seeing the marching bands reminds me that we hardly have them here. I used to see them sometimes in Sarnia (a border town) but more often than not they came from Michigan. Haven't seen one here at all (since 2005) IIRC.
