Autumn in NH

Fall colors are fading here in Nashua thanks to recent rains and wind. Over the past week, we took a few walks to Mine Falls Park located near our mill apartment in the heart of the city. It was purchased in 1969 from the Nashua, NH Foundation with city and federal Land and Water Conservation Fund money.

The park's name derives from the 1700s, when low-quality lead was thought to be mined from the island below the falls. In the early 1800s, the potential of the Nashua River to drive the wheels of industry was recognized. Workers used shovels and mules to dig the three-mile long canal.

Mine Falls park includes forest, wetlands, and open fields with varied recreational opportunities for walking, biking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. There's also includes several fields for organized sports.
In 1992, the park trails were designated part of the New Hampshire Heritage Trail system, which extends 130 miles along the Merrimack River from Massachusetts to Canada. We haven't walked along all the park trails in the nearly 3 years we've lived in the city.

One day our walk was quite overcast and so I experimented with after-effects of the same scene. Here's a soft light effect.

Also, a similar photo of the same scene with a boost effect.
In addition to the canal walk. There's also a Nashua River walk which we did on another day in late afternoon. Unfortunately, we were a bit late for any spectacular foliage.
Do you remember shuffling through leaves as a child? We do and that's what we did along the path back to our apartment building.
Yes, it was fun and even better as we no longer have to rake leaves as when we owned our own home.

Any fall colors still left in your neighborhood?

We may have the occasional tree with a few leaves, but really we're done. And we have much snow this morning. All school buses are cancelled.

The last picture with the fallen leaves on the ground ,and the tree branches forming arches from above - is something special!

Your pictures are beautiful! We still have colorful trees here but all will be gone in a week or two. I love the colors of fall but hate the cold of winter. And now we have 3 inches of snow on the ground.

No leaves down here in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. 4" of snow though.
I love where you live in Nashua. We lived at Hollis Crossing for a few years before retiring.
Mine Park and the Nashua Trail is a fantastic place to explore.

We have a few leaves left but not many as we've had ice and snow here the last couple of days. Lovely scenes in your photos. I would love walking along those trails.

There is nothing like being in the middle of beautiful scenery. Your pictures are close though.

still looks absolutely gorgeous to me!

Our leaf color was disappointing this year. Lots of high wind and heavy rain stripped them off far too soon. Lovely photographs.

What a beautiful place! Your photos are amazing. I especially like the last one. It would look great printed on a canvas. 😊

Such a lovely place to wander and explore!

Looking out the window at present at falling snow, I see a tree outside that still has its leaves, but it might be the sort of tree that holds onto its leaves until spring.

Beautiful scenery and colours. All our leaves are long gone.

Beautiful fall photos. Oh too bad today winter arrived. I think you got a bit more snow than we did, but hopefully it will all melt. I keep thinking next week is Christmas not Thanksgiving. Hope all is well. Hugs-Erika

Your autumn pictures are beautiful. Every year I curse the amount of leaves in the garden but this year seems different. What few have fallen are examined by the birds so I'm hoping more leaves will fall.

Last week's Nor'easter took many of our leaves down. Fall lasted almost a week here. Frost this morning.
enjoyed your pictures, tho...

New Hampshire is so pretty - even with the leaves mostly gone! You have some beautiful places to walk. We don't have many leaves left on the trees - mostly just the orangish-brown ones that cling through a good part of the winter.

So pretty! Most all the leaves are down around here. No blowing them off the lawn this past weekend....snow covered them :)

Thanks for the reminders of New England. I grew up in Massachusetts and visited Vermont and New Hampshire often. The pictures are lovely.
