Walking (Very) Tall

A former mayor is walking tall downtown in Boston, MA.
This 10-foot bronze statue depicts one of Boston's most influential mayors, Kevin Hagan White, also the longest-serving mayor 1968 to 1984. Bolivian sculptor Pablo Eduardo's work shows White walking away from City Hall, right foot forward, tie wrinkled, and a jacket thrown over his left shoulder.

Footsteps leading up to the statue are imprinted in the ground and quotes from each of White's four inaugural speeches (1968, 1972, 1976, 1980) are engraved in stonework nearby.

The statue which was dedicated in November 2006 is in downtown Boston along Congress St at Faneuil Hall. The site was selected as the most suitable since without Mayor WHite's persistence, Faneuil Hall might never have been erected.

White died in January 2012.

The photo at right shows White near the statue and striking the same pose (Internet source).

Enjoy Your weekend, Everyone.

I hope the upcoming elections are fair and that the good people get out to vote.

I was impressed by the Roadside art post. You must think ahead of future post topics. Some of us are not equipped to do that. :)

Voted again- I'd neglected to do so in the intervening period.

The statue looks quite life like. It occurs to me that I know of only one statue here of a former mayor.

I like the statue a lot. I used to work in Boston after College but that was way before this … in the mid 50's.

I know nothing about that mayor but I love the statue and footsteps. I didn't know we could vote every day. I'll be there again tomorrow.

The statue is beautiful and a nice tribute to Mayor White. I remember him from the 70s when I used to spend lots of time in Boston.
