Oversized and New Cookware

Grenville and I order online mainly through Amazon. Although we're so much closer to shopping outlets in Nashua, NH than when we lived on the VA Eastern Shore (we had to drive 90 minutes then) we don't frequent them often, Amazon Prime membership offers 2-day delivery. That's often easier than driving to a store especially in cold or rainy weather,  and we can shop at home in our "jammies" too. What's not to like about that?

That said, some recent Amazon packages we've received have been perfect for the contents, but on the other hand, some not so much. These have made us wonder whether or not there wasn't a smaller size box available.
Shown above are outer views of a package delivered yesterday. There was also a lot of brown paper packing. If you're curious as to the contents of this box, here it is:
That's it, a single 10-inch fry pan that was shrink-wrapped in two layers of plastic (cut off free before the photo). The cookware was bought through an Amazon Warehouse "deal" with a bigger discount, so there was no manufacturer's box. That's OK with us as it's less cardboard to recycle.

As many folks may know, All-Clad is not inexpensive cookware. Grenville and I enjoy cooking (and eating). After years of buying and using assorted cookware brands: WearEver, Farberware, Caphalon, Ikea and Vollrath, we wanted to upgrade to a single brand that was USA made and opted for stainless steel as well. We've filled a boxfull of pots and pans for giveaways; always a good thing.

This isn't our first USA made cookware.Vollrath is made in Sheyboygan, WI. However, some of the ceramic coated pans we owned, started showing wear marks on the interior.

Not every All-Clad piece is USA made, some accessory items are not. However, based on our research, it appears that even these non-USA made products carry the manufacturer's guarantee. We've never had to seek warranty assistance on any of the other cookware which was even less costly.

A ❓to our fellow bloggers who enjoy cooking . . . what cookware do you prefer and why?

We have the same problem with Amazon's packaging. I don't know why they have to use such huge boxes. I was given T-Fal cookware when I got married 10 years ago. Although they are expensive, they didn't hold up for us. I guess I am rough on them. My husband bought me stainless steel pans which are much better. I don't think they are a brand name, but they do the job and do it well.

LOL at the packaging. Our daughter-in-law wanted a rustic rolling pin which we ordered from Amazon. It came in a HUGE box, the full length of the rolling pin and almost as wide as it was long.

I also love All-Clad. I've never looked in the warehouse section, but now I will. Thanks

When I saw the box and read the first two sentences I knew what was coming but cuz we order everything we order through Amazon from Bob's little tiny bathing suit two laptops period And every single time something comes we are amazed at the size of the box it comes in. But we do love their service and it comes really quickly and only twice over the years have I had to return something and it is so easy to do much easier than driving in traffic to the store. I tried to cook as little as possible so I use whatever Walmart or Kmart has that I can afford.

We have stainless steel wok, pans and pots. I never buy Teflon anymore because it chips and gets into the food.

I have recently experienced the packaging issue.

So far I have refused Prime. Perhaps I wouldn't use it enough, and perhaps the tv part isn't as good here. But I might signup sometime.

Disposing of those over-large boxes is a pain in the neck. I also do most of my shopping online. I even order a lot of my groceries online. They have them ready for me and load them right into the car for me. I prefer to buy produce and meat myself though.

We like shopping through Amazon too--maybe too much! We've noticed the big box issue too.

I haven't ordered enough from Amazon to really take note of the box thing. The odd book or DVD here or there.

LOL....that is too funny. When I used to order for the office my stuff would come packed like that but that was not from Amazon. Gotta wonder for sure. Thanks for leaving a comment on my block, I think it is a hawk also.

I need some new pans. I find myself buying from Amazon more and more. I do try to shop at our local places but having gone many times only to be told they don't have what I need, I gravitated to Amazon.

I am a cast iron girl. I have other pans (never Teflon) that I cook with if forced but I use my three cast iron pans over and over and over. As far as the extra packaging goes I love it! I use it in our rocket mass stove, to wrap Christmas gifts, to oil my cast iron pans.

I tend to order from Amazon a lot, also - they make it so easy. All Clad are supposed to be awesome pans!

Yes - Amazon does that - they pack it to death, but nothing is ever injured that way, I guess.

I have a large set of Circulon cookware - it was a bigger deal about 20 years ago, I guess. I was sorry I got rid of my Revereware set when I got the Circulon. I do like it for its non-stick properties. But when my parents passed away, I kept a couple of their stainless Faberware boilers and I use them all the time for boiling up pasta, etc.
