Making a List . . .

And checking it twice (or more) isn’t just Santa’s job. That’s because I do (nearly) the same thing around this time using a different list.

MY list is our annual holiday card list — politically correct cause not all the folks we send greetings to celebrate Christmas.

The list is ever-changing; usually it gets longer even though every December thoughts of shortening it come to mind. The list is stored on my PC so I can make any adjustments throughout the year.

Yes, postage costs keeps rising — on Jan. 27, 2013 it’s going up another cent to 46 cents for a first-class letter. A little good news (?) is that in addition to the U.S. “forever” stamp, the USPS is introducing a global “forever” stamp to mail first-class letters anywhere in the world for a set price of $1.10. (Prices now vary depending on the international destination.)

OK back to holiday cards which were started this week — way earlier than past years. The cards are blank inside (no pre-printed greetings) so including a personal message in each card and addressing them takes awhile — NOT a complaint, just saying.

MY work area on the dining room table looks like this . . .

1212 holiday cards (1)Cost and time aside, THIS is my favorite holiday “tradition.” Some Many folks can use a personal greeting, especially this time of year.

HOW about you — do you like sending or receiving cards ? And, feel free to share YOUR favorite holiday tradition in a comment.

I have printed my own cards and even envelopes in the past. Sometimes, I have written a letter. Last year I did nothing.

Hi B...I like sending cards a almost lost tradition, but Hallmarks seems to be doing well lol!!
I do like to receive then, but like the given best!
I don't send as many as I used to because of the postage, and cards are very expensive individualy...so when should I expect mine??? ; }

I stopped sending cards when I was working and just didn't have time for them. Now I only send a few cards to people who live far away and that I can't wish Merry Chritmas by other method.

I may not be doing many cards this year. Both my eyes see great at a distance now, but am having trouble seeing up close, as in, to read and write. Can't get new glasses til the end of the month. I should be back posting soon.

I used to send out a lot more than I do now. It used to be the only way to keep in touch with some, but I can do that with the computer now when I couldn't do that in years past.

Sending cards is a nice tradition that is also dwindling. Our family does a photo card these days. I like the Shutterfly website where you can create your own cards. For faraway friends, I write a personal greeting on the back. The first year that we moved away from home I tried a newsletter type thing, but that just wasn't 'me'. It seemed weird sending everyone the exact same letter.
Happy card writing!

Cards are still a part of our Christmas tradition especially for family and friends who are not on line - yes there are some of those. Mine are all out - mailed last Sunday from Port Canaveral while we were in port. Sometimes it takes some extra planning to get them written and in the mail on time. Your table looks very much like mine did here while I wrote the cards. :)

Merry Christmas!
Lois

I still send out lots of cards - about 60 or so. I love to send them and I love to receive them.
