Your name, Beatrice, always reminds me of my one-room, country, schoolteacher...Miss Beatrice Brown. She never married, always drove a relatively new, brown, Chevrolet, 4-door sedan from Arcanum, Ohio to our country school. Those days—late 1930s to late 1940s were before road scrapers, snow plows and salted roads. You might find a few coal cinders spread at a 4-way stop but that was the extent of winter driving then. Beatrice always made it, regardless of weather and of course, in those days, there were nothing called, "snow tires." Mother always said, "If Miss Brown can make it, you can walk the mile from home to school." And we did.
