Friday Funnies

Today, February 14, the U.S. celebrates Valentine's Day with candy, flowers, greeting cards and romantic dinners. Other countries worldwide have own unique ways to celebrate the day. My personal preference is to call it Hearts ❤️ Day.
Maxine at Hudson, NH, senior center
Maxine is decked out for the day at the senior center, we attend as members. This lady is a regular at the center and is always dressed for a holiday occasion.
John Wagner, creator of Maxine
In 1986, 25-year old Hallmark™ artist John Wagner created an edgy old lady he called Maxine for the Shoebox Greetings card line. He was said to have based the character on his mother, grandmother and maiden aunts who helped raise him. Wagner retired from Hallmark in 2011, but Maxine has not retired, and is still going strong.

❤️ In 1982, magazine writer and editor Anne Herbert coined the phrase "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty." Random Acts of Kindness Week, started Feb 9 but can should always continue with selfless acts that make others happy and these small acts. There are many bloggers, including some on my side bar list, who are going through difficult times and would enjoy receiving comments. Surely, you also know of others as well. If so, you might consider a mention or link to his/her blog on yours. ❤️

We never go out on this date. After our usual Friday dominoes get together at the senior center today, our evening will consist of making homemade pizza, enjoying adult beverages and watching a couple of rom-com films from our DVD collection.

How about you — Any Special Plans for today, evening or weekend?

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone & Happy ❤️ Day

...call it what you want, but have a happy day.

I've invited a friend over to share coffee and some baked goods (which she will pick up at our local bakery)! I suggested donuts, but fresh baked goodies will be better! Hope you all have a happy hearts day...loved seeing Maxine! What a hoot! And I'm glad to know the source of "practice random kindness and senseless acts of beauty." I'll program it into my calendar now.

We’ve taken to going out the following weekend, to avoid the crowds. Your evening plans sound wonderful! I love the idea of giving comment love. I will explore your side panel. Enjoy your day, my friend 💕

We had lunch out the other day instead of trying it today, so our celebration is done.

Maxine cracks me up. Rick will make dinner for me tonight, our tradition. (He often cooks but Valentine's dinner is always extra special.) Happy Day!

I love Maxine.

These Maxine facts are fascinating, I did not know any of it. And I love how you show us the creator! I like your way of celebrating! Friends and games. Not a big loud restaurant with a lot of strangers! We are not going out to dinner either. I am making a simple dinner and we will have a cozy evening of T.V. watching. It is Valentines Day whenever I am with Phil!

Hi Beatrice, Love Maxine...she vocalizes what many older folks are just thinking. We don't go out on Valentine's Day either. After all, every day is Valentine's Day for us! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

We celebrate with chocolate. I got 24 truffles and we both got a box of Belgian chocs from the travelling daughter. We had workmen in, but it is a double celebration for us because it is also our wedding anniversary. So, the chocolate dessert will be done tomorrow.
