September has gone and October arrived with the realization of the widespread devastation and loss of life across the Southeast from Hurricane Helene, which is still ongoing.Perhaps, like ourselves, some of you, have family members in the affected states. Ours in FL and GA. Thankfully, aside from some downed trees and a lot of water, they escaped without physical injury or property damage.
Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for so many others, which includes fellow bloggers, who if having escaped damage or injury, can be dealing with various after-effects.
We've watched videos of the destruction, especially in hard hit NC; it's been mind numbing.
Our excitement about traveling abroad has been curtailed by this event. While we can't help physically, financial support is doable — many agencies need money to help those who have lost so much, including their homes and belongings.
To any fellow bloggers living in the hardest hit states of FL, GA, SC, NC, TN and VA or if you have family members there, we hope that you will receive the support needed from many others who care.
This new month marks a US presidential milestone as former President Jimmy Carter celebrates his 100th birthday and is now the longest living president in history. Other long-life presidents and the year and age they died: George Bush in 2028 at 94, Gerald Ford in 2006 at 93 and Ronald Reagan in 2004 at 93.

My sister is in North Carolina. They felt some of the effects of Helene but not the devastation so many have to deal with. I hope for the best for all.
Thank you, these are great organizations which help those in the disaster area of western North Carolina, where I've evacuated from. I will share more photos on my blog, but you may have already seen much more than I did since we had no elec or cell service, so I couldn't blog, or even read others for 4 days! My little town of Black Mountain was hit hard by water and wind...though I was safe, I must add.

Our little cottage and neighborhood are OK, but as my blog friend from a city which was affected says "it is possible to be grateful and heartbroken at the same time." (I linked to her post in mine). I'm happy your family members were OK. (And PS: I am so happy Jimmy Carter made it to his birthday and hope he is able to vote in this vitally important election. I read that his family says this is his greatest wish.)

What a situation! I think the impacted bloggers that I follow are managing one way or t'other.
The flooding in the States has been pretty awful. Like you, I hope those affected get all the help they need with rebuilding their homes and lives. Northern Ireland thankfully isn't much affected by floods but England has seen some torrential flooding.
My heart aches for the many people and friends that have been hurt by so much devastation.
Hoping that our small amount will help someone in need.

Thank you for sharing the donation information for Disaster Relief agencies. If everyone can do a little, a LOT can be accomplished. We live in Florida, but thankfully not in the bad zone for this hurricane. Some of our friends lost power, but that is about it. I do have a relative by marriage whose house was inundated with storm surge water on the coast, and it is really a great loss. I am not sure if it will be totally repairable or not. She was just recently widowed too, which makes things even harder for her. So much devastation in the mountains that is so hard to bear. Our hearts are breaking for so many people who are suffering. Thank you to all who can do something.
This was such a wide spread and devastating weather occurance. I do have a long time friend in North Carolina but she lives in an area not affected by the hurricane.

While I do not have family or friends in the affected areas, I do feel for the poeple who have been in the path of Helene. So many lives lost and the aftermath is hard to deal with. It is heartbreaking. I'm afraid we will have more and more of such "weather events" with the ongoing change of the climate.

the devastation is hard to look at. it seems worse then superstorm sandy and i don't even want to think about what is coming in florida right now!! thanks for the information, it is wonderful to see people come together to help!!
