Friday Funnies

Tuscany, a region in central Italy, has long been known for its landscapes, history, artistic legacy and foods. It's become one of the most popular destinations for travelers, including ourselves.

We enjoyed much of these things during our recent trip, including this food group.
Freshly-made pizza could be found everywhere. Every street had one (or more) storefronts selling various types. We enjoyed a slice several times, usually followed by a gelato treat.
Despite so many choices for freshly-made pizza, here's⬆︎what was in a local supermarket.
Fries (and hamburgers) were not only on many menus, but also in the supermarket.
Just like in a U.S. supermarket, there were rows of these products, so not all Italians make their own pasta and sauce.
Here's some good stuff, vino, cheese and fresh breads  — who needs anything more ?

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
We're still in catching-up mode

Did you pack some of those goodies in your luggage to enjoy in the US?

It's sort of sad to see the supermarket packed with this stuff. I know it's dreamland to think they wouldn't be, but life is often filled with dreams!

I'm not surprised with the pasta sauce, or French fries, but frozen pizza? That seems so wrong. I remember tasting pizza in Rome and then in Florence and they definitely weren't exactly the same, but both so good. Hope your colds go away soon. And enjoy this lovely weekend. hugs-Erika

I love seeing what their grocery stores look like!! They even have one brand that is sold here! So were any of the pizzeria pizzas a stand-put, or were they all comparable?

Hi Beatrice, We'd love to sample some of that fresh pizza! Looks great! In reality, we'd just be happy with some of that amazing looking bread and some regional cheese. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave

Sort of disappointing to see all the processed food in their supermarkets. I hope the pizza and gelato were better than the US versions!

I was already beginning to hanker for pizza.

That is quite a wine display. Makes sense, of course.

Looks like you enjoyed your visit to Italy! Doesn't look like it's much different from us! We actually had a frozen pizza last night instead of Domino's. We added extra cheese and pepperoni, and it was pretty good! But I know not as good was what you were finding in the real pizza country. I can imagine how good that really fresh pizza must have been! Glad you are back and we will look forward to hearing more about your trip as you are able to catch up!

Hello, Beatrice. What a wonderful trip it must have been...time spent in Tuscany. I've always had a soft spot for Italy, and its people. I look like Shrek...I'm green with envy! :)

Loved the food tour ; we like to go into markets and grocery stores wherever we are when we have time -- you can really learn a lot (like that my favorite brand of pasta is on the shelf there, almost makes me feel well-traveled )). In answer to your very last question -- I just might want to add some of that yummy Italian gelato to the list!

Love to grocery shop when I'm traveling. Much more fun than at home. My favorite in Italy is a nice cup of coffee at a cafe. Definitely need a trip back to Italy.
