'Tis true that Christmas Day is over, however, this week is still holiday time. So, in keeping with the season this post features holiday decorations seen in downtown Nashua and within the halls of Clocktower Place, the mill apartment building where we live. These escaped an earlier posting; I opted not to hold off for a Christmas in July post.
Come along for a look at decorations in downtown Nashua and our residence building before all of Christmas disappears until at least next October. (It gets earlier very year.) This is a long photo-laden post with a multitude of decos.
The city of Nashua, NH, doesn't have a large downtown with more restaurants than retail stores. There are some other businesses: several barber shops, a tobacco shop, craft store, two thrift stores, a Persian rug store, pharmacy, two jewelry stores and a couple of boutiques. We walked downtown, a week before Christmas on an overcast day, and saw these holiday decorations.
Capturing store window displays is always problematic because of reflections. The use of a polarizing filter can help minimize or eliminate many of these. However, my camera doesn't have the capability for add-on filters. The mouse figurines below were featured in a jewelry store display. Yes, they are very small.
Santas and snowmen were featured in several of the storefront windows, along with a few elves.

Clocktower Place apartments encompasses two 5-story buildings that house a total of 325 apartment homes. Many of these featured exterior door wreaths, some included live greenery.
Some wreaths in Clocktower Place, none of these had live greenery |
Live trees are no longer allowed inside the apartments due to safety regulations. When we first moved here 8 years ago there were no such restrictions. Ironically, a couple of years ago when we were planning to have a cut tree, the policy changed (bah humbug indeed).

Decorations outside our apartment ⬇ featured most of the usuals from the past several years. The penguin and frog were joined by Santa and a couple of elves.

Santas, snowmen and penguins were included in our interior decorations on a more limited scale than previous years. Many others are stored with the tree which wasn't put up.

The wording on this ⬆ sign is part of the monologue rant that Clark Griswold delivers to relatives in the 1989 classic film, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation as they try to leave his home. Some may remember this part, Where do you think you're going? Nobody's leaving. Nobody's walking out on this fun, old-fashioned family Christmas. No, no. We're all in this together. This is a full-blown, four-alarm holiday emergency here . . .(there is more and it can be found online).
The wording on this ⬆ sign is also from Christmas Vacation and is said by Clark's wife, Ellen, to her teenage daughter, Audrey, who's upset that both sets of grandparents staying over for the holiday. Only thing is the wording is wrong. The line from the film is: I don't know what to say, except it's Christmas and we're all in misery. Seems someone didn't know the film well.
Thanks to everyone for comments on our Christmas post. Your good wishes were appreciated. This week we're in our native NJ visiting family and friends before year end. We're home before New Year's Eve which we'll spend at home watching movies together 🥂.

Oh, this was a delightful post! I enjoyed all of the shop window displays and wreaths and door decorations, and your Christmas Village is amazing! I love it! Frankly, I kind of like that idea better than the tree!! We have a village and train under our tree, but it is the old vintage Lionel /Plasticville style of village, which is difficult to manage and set up, etc. If it weren't for the nostalgia it envokes from having the same kind of display in my home growing up with a Dad who collected Lionel Trains and had a huge display, I would opt to change to the newer style of ceramic village buildings, etc., like yours. But at this stage in life it is too late to start over (and too expensive), so we will continue on as is. I loved all your signs too! Funny. I love the Griswold Family Christmas. One of our favorite movies. Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours!!!
So many fun and festive views today. I love the New England holiday village. That is a good replacement for a tree. Stay dry. Hopefully the rain won't be like last week's. hugs-Erika
You truly have the Christmas spirit. I enjoyed looking at the holiday decor, especially that village in your home.
You covered the topic very thoroughly. I did lights this year but not decorations. We have building that's in the middle of your NE village. We haven't put it up for a few years, so I can't recall whether it is a church or school. On to new Years we now stumble.
All of the holiday decorations are a feast for the eyes.- - creative, charming, nostalgic, joyful and (of course) beautiful."Live" Christmas trees seem to be a thing of the past. The fake trees are tacky and uninspiring.
I LOVE your miniature New England village!
your village is beautiful and i would leave it up too. I leave my little tree up til Jan end of month, I remove ornaments and just have the lights on it. love all the cute penguins. loved all the wreathes, with all you have there you don't have to leave the aparments to take beautiful photos, and can walk not drive to see decorations. I would like that. Downtown Bradenton has 2 blocks with a few buildings that look just like these
You live in a beautiful town! Lots of great decorations in your building.
Each and every picture made me smile. I am sorry Christmas is over. I can't wait 'til next year.
Wonderful photographs, they make the season happier.
I'd keep the village up all winter. It is beautiful. Lots of cozy atmosphere there.
Oh my! I just hopped over here from AC and I can see that I am going to be spending a happy time looking at all the images. Lovely, and well done.
One of the first has a ceramic mouse clinging to a Christmas tree and I love him.
You make a fine, fine job of the window reflections.
Back later.
They made a rule here, too, about no live trees. People decorate outside their doors. Many hang wreaths and other items with those over the door hooks.
You really caught a lot of the decorations all over! I liked the little ceramic mice. Haven't seen those before. Cute! So many--all the classics and the new gnomes that are so popular the past couple of years. Your town with the train is really something! I would leave it up, too! How pretty that is to have on at night. Almost New Years--let's hope it is a really good year. :)
What a fun post! It looks like people in Nashua go all out -- and I think you caught them all. So delightful!
Merry Christmas to you both and to loved ones dear Dorothy ❤
Sorry for being late this time .lots of happening here. But here I am to say I missed being here much.

It is not issue at all whether you comment often or less I really enjoy my time reading your posts and that is the matter.

I loved how nicely you decorated your entrance. And what a beautiful scenery and looks amazing after lit up wow.
Funnies are nice too .

The Christmas decorations look really beautiful, but my favorite definitely is your New England holiday village. All the best you and Grenville for a happy and healthy 2024 - Carola
I like the New England village. And I like all the Christmas signs. People are so inventive with their Christmas decorations.
Good decorations.
Wonderful post Dorothy! Loved all the decorations you shared and the New England Village is fabulous! Thank you so much for sharing these and have a wonderful time with your family. Wishing you all A Very Happy New Year!
Hi Beatrice, Great post with a lot of Holiday spirit! Our space saving flat Christmas tree with built in lights died...and since we didn't have anyone visiting for the holidays, we put out minimal decorations, despite the fact that we are loaded with all types of Christmas décor. I love that lighted photo of your New England Holiday/winter village! Very sweet and charming... Hope that you enjoyed/are enjoying the family visit in New Jersey. Wishing you and yours a happy, healthy New Year! Take Care, Big Daddy Dave and Laurie
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you too.
I really love your Small Town atmosphere. It seems so delightful and quaint. Love all the decor and detail. Those mice at the jewelry store are something that I would want to display in my home. Love your penguins and snowmen too.
The holiday village is amazing..I would keep it up too.
This weekend our artificial tree will come down for another year. I have to admit I miss the real one but this one looks so real and I can take it down in sections. Since we were gone for a week, I didn't have to worry about it getting musty or dying on us.
Sue
A wonderful post, Dorothy!
The joyful and celebratory sights are delightful.
I especially love your New England holiday village.
Wishing you a Happy New Year!
I enjoyed these jolly decorations. My Middle Child loves gnomes and always gets a few more for her collection as Xmas gifts. I hope your holiday was wonderful.
I enjoyed looking at ALL the decorations!! It's really wonderful that so many in your apartment buildings participate in displaying such festive things. I don't have gnomes, and sure don't need another thing to collect, but they are sweet and popular.
Your New England holiday village is absolutely delightful! For a few years (many years ago) I put up various village pieces. I considered donating them recently since they haven't been used in years, but ended up putting the box in the basement. Will go thru it maybe later this year and see what we have. Maybe put them up again.
