Friday Funnies

Walking in downtown Nashua, NH, recently, this parked vehicle was the smallest car I'd ever seen. Two of these could have fit in a single parking space!
Its owner definitely has a sense of humor. The key on top was not a manufacturer-supplied accessory.

Curious to learn more, I checked online and found out that this can was the electric Smart Fortwo. At less than 9 feet long, it was one of the tiniest cars formerly available in the U.S. The Smart name came about in 1994 when Swiss company Swatch and German automaker Mercedes-Benz came together to manufacture subcompact, retro-styled, and urban-centric cars for young and trendy individuals. The brand struggled almost from day one. Swatch soon dropped out of the project. The Smart car never took off in the U.S., with large, full-size SUVs and pickup trucks winning market appeal. By 2019, Mercedes decided to discontinue the entire smart range in the U.S.

I don't know about you, but this would definitely be a cramped ride for myself and Grenville.

Enjoy Your Weekend, Everyone
A rainy start on Friday, but sunshine & cooler temps later

I used to see one of these locally years ago. But the general feeling was that they were too risky on the road with giant SUVs and had no chance of even being seen, let alone avoided. They probably would work better inside airports or resort hotel complexes, with no road traffic to contend with.

we have quite a few here, have seen them in walmart parking lot and other places, I think they are so cute and would be fun to drive, but only if everyone else is driving small cars. down here the majority is pickup trucks and large SUV's and any type of fender bender would be deadly if in one of these. like motorcycles are. we average 4 to 5 motorcyle deaths per month here. in one Month, I think it was June there were 6 cycle deaths, and a lot more that lived

Oh, yes, this would be cramped for us, too! We have a "spare" car, a Ford Fiesta that is so tiny that we have to turn sideways to get in and out of it. It's cute to see daughter Catherine driving it with one of our pups riding shotgun. The car was originally for our granddaughter to drive to work while she lived here to go to XU across the street and for us for local shopping trips. It is definitely very useful when one of the other cars is in the shop.

There's a little car like that that we see on our daily walks. I have wondered what kind of car it is, but never took a closer look. Thank you for posting these photos and the info.

I saw a few of these years ago, but not for a long time now. I would be terrified on the freeway, especially now. People are maniacs.

It is a cute vehicle, not that safe, but cute.

I use to drive a Geo Metro before Chevy took them over.
Three cylinder, sounded like a tiny jet engine when stopping, but nowhere near as loud. It was thee best vehicle I've driven, great in snow and on gas. Steep driveway, other cars didn't make it. My Metro zipped right up it without a blink.

Whew..that is definitely too small for us. I think it would be scary on our California freeways. Too many semi's and big cars zooming by.
It is really cute though, especially with the key on top.
Enjoy your cooler weather. Ours is going to swing around back into "Bake" mode by Sunday...Sigh

Love it! Dream car for me--and the red crank on top makes it perfect. I'm 5'1" so it is probably just my size and I could use it just in town. :)

It's a cute little car, but I never really thought of them as being very smart, at least not out on a highway. And no, we would not fit in that car either. My hubby is 6'2" +. But it is cute for a little person on little in town streets.

The thing on top looks a bit like a feminist symbol! A two-person car wouldn't be appropriate for us. We bought a four-person car to ferry our families around when they came to visit us. I still see a few Smart cars in Belfast but the car of choice is a gas-guzzling Land Rover!

These small cars were popular in Britain fora while (perhaps still are). I know a fellow who had two of them but now drives an electric vehicle. I am seeing more and more electric vehicles and hybrids here too.

I’ve seen a few cars similar to this in size. I would not want to be on the highway inside one of them, but if a community ONLY had these cars, it would probably be a great way to get around. Similar to communities where only golf carts are allowed.

There is one of these buzzing around my small town. Cute, but too small for me and it seems so unsafe!

Yikes! I'd hate to drive that on the highway.

I remember seeing a car like this in Paris and thought the same thing. Who would fit?!

Beatrice!!! This is super cute! A lot of these cars are used here in Europe but I still cant get used to seeing it and I swoon whenever I do coz its so cute, much more this one you shared with a winder!!!

Super happy to see you on my blog! I am so thankful for your visit and your beautiful comments, I really appreciate it! I have been absent for quite some time especially that I moved for the first time out of our family's house where I grew up and even more into another country. I am so blessed because God brought me to my ultimate favorite country without me knowing it will be here honestly haha

These or similar are quite popular in London where parking's almost impossible!

My long legs would feel cramped in one of those.

Beatrice, At my age and stage, I wouldn't be able to get in and out of that tiny tin can of a car. Take Care, Big Daddy Dave
