This is WHAT we found growing near the mulch pile a couple of weeks ago, and it was MUCH smaller then . . . this was TODAY.
NO, it’s not an invasive weed, but something we’re looking forward to eating this fall. Just look closely at the arrows in the photo below to see WHY.
That small golden bloom on the left and the oblong green shape are joined by many more of these hidden among all these leaves . . .
YES, we hope these little orbs thrive for fall harvesting. Since we didn’t plant any squashes in our small veggie garden this season, this “volunteer” is most welcome.
Here’s our butternut squash harvested last season, some of which are still frozen . . .
Any surprises for you lately?
Oh, what a fun surprise! Hope you both have a good week.
An awesome surprise ! I noticed earlier today I have Geraniums growing in our lawn in the front ! The must of reseeded from my potted Geraniums ! Amazing what pops up isn't it ? Have a good day !
Lovely surprise! Hope you'll get a few mature squash. Here Jack Frost has dealt with all the squash plants so any I get will have to be purchased. I love finding volunteers in the yard. I've got a sunflower that's blooming and of course numerous violas all over. Their tenacity brings them right up to the top of my favorite flower list.
I LOVE squash! Nothing like that ever volunteers itself in OUR yard!! Sheesh!!
That's a wonderful surprise! I bet you are lining up some delicious recipes =)
Looks like we both got surprises, mine was the Rose of Sharon and yours was YUMMY butternut squash which is my fav over pumpkin. Looks like you had a good harvest last year. This years, is not too shabby and to think you did not have to plant it.
Enjoy your squash! We don't garden, so we won't be getting anything. Several friends grow gardens and always share the bounty with us.
yummy volunteer, i love squash of any kind. my surprise was a kindle given to me by a friend.
Fun to have this surprise. I like them with a cream gravy.
Volunteers are always a nice surprise.
Two thumbs up for the volunteers! They know where they are welcome!
No butternut squash for me this year, it's been so cold that they haven't even flowered this year :-) :-) :-)The only surprise in my garden was the Jimsonweed that suddenly grew up in one of my flower beds. Now its over a yard high and it has had lots of flowers :-)Have a great day!Christer.
What a great surprise! I hope it yields many for you to enjoy!
