Look a lot like Christmas in many places with less than 2 weeks to go until the big day.
The Hudson Senior Center in NH where we're members is always decked out for the holidays and even more so at this time of year. Members, including myself, volunteer to put up (and later take down) all of the trees, figures and extensive holiday village.
Above are some of the 12 trees that are displayed in every room from the director's office to the lunchroom and game areas.
A holiday-themed village is displayed on several bookcase shelves. All of the individual pieces were unpacked and set up and will be removed and stored the same way.
The center's resident senior, Maxine, is also decked out in a holiday outfit. She's always dressed for the seasons and holidays by center members.
The displays in the windows of a local jewelry store features Wee Forest Folk®, which began in 1972 as a New England business started by Annette Petersen at the family farm in Concord, MA. The company produces a line of miniatures, most of which are mice figures and handcrafted entirely in the U.S. in Carlisle, MA.
Each mouse begins as an original clay piece which is hand sculpted by one of three sculptors in the Petersen family. The finished sculpture is molded and hand cast at the mouse factory in Carlisle, MA, then selected artistisians hand paint each one.
These mice are tiny, but their prices are not so small as many have become collectibles over the years. The cost of some of those shown in the photos above ranges from a couple hundred dollars to over 500 for three in the Santa train as each are individually priced. Thanks to freezing temperatures the past week, ice sculptures created during the Holiday Stroll on Thanksgiving weekend are still in a downtown park area.
The Parc de Notre Renaissance Française, a riverfront park close to the mill apartments of Clocktower Place was opened during Thanksgiving weekend after renovations of 18 months were completed. The park honors the Franco-American community's contributions to the city's textile industry with the centerpiece La Dame et son fils Émile sculpture. It now includes a walking path, seating areas, bike racks and a covered amphitheater for summertime concerts.
Christmas trees have been set up in both lobbies Clocktower Place apartments. The one on the left is in the building we call home. The one on the right is in the other building. A resident holiday party will be held tonight including a visit by Santa.
Decorations outside our apartment entry were done last week with many familiar pieces. The interior decorations will be completed this week. Holiday card writing took precedence this past week. Yes, despite ever-increasing USPS rates, I prefer to send cards in the post versus through text messages. However, I can understand that rising costs deter many from doing the same.
Your turn — do you decorate for the holidays and/or send cards?

...it sure is, have a merry one.
All is very pretty. Your town has the spirit. I don't do much decorating anymore, sometimes none. I gave up on cards years ago. I may be the Grinch.
Cards for a few friends...minimal decorations at home, but I do love to go see others'!
Even when I had a large home and family, our decorating was minimal, lights outside and the tree and decorations all traditional through the years. But I love seeing what other people do. Lights and trees are my favorites.
Yes, I do a photo card for close friends and regular cards for everyone else. I enjoy going to places that have multiple trees up like that. It's so fun to see all the unique ornaments.
Fun seeing all the decorations you have there. I still send cards, like you. Hadn't decorated for years, but I am this year...just a little bit. :)
My goodness, that is a lovely and very ornate set of ornamentations. I enjoyed the tour.
A wonderful variety of beautiful holiday decorations. Thanks for sharing these. Jon
I love this post! Maxine is so funny! And the Senior Center must be rather large, so many beautiful trees! I have never seen an ice sculpture in real life, these are so cool! The Village is amazing! And the mice! so adorable, yet so expensive!
Quite a lot of decorating down there in southern NH. Yes to decorating and card sending. Merry Christmas to you both!
What a lot of holiday cheer!
Somehow I can't picture Maxine appreciating that particular get-up. I really like the tree with the snowman base. All of the pictures make me happy. Merry Christmas.
Looking good, you two! Maxine is a treasure!
Merry Holidays! 🎄
Beautiful decorations. Such a nice senior center is a benefit of living in a city. I like the tree in your building best.
May
Lovely photographs and collages, I always enjoy seeing Maxine too, she is looking very colourful in her holiday outfit :)
Here, the Christmas decor is out and cards have been written and sent.
Early good wishes to you for a Merry Christmas.
All the best Jan
You seniors are so energetic and that puts me to shame! Love the decorations.
Love all the assorted decorations. I don't decorate much, but have put out some of the snowmen collection. I do send cards, but so far have only written 4. Yes, 4. I am woefully behind, but hoping to make a dent over the weekend. See you soon!
They certainly go all out to do the decorations and how wonderful is that with everyone chipping in their time to help. Well done everyone! I am also late in sending out cards but hope to get them done tomorrow. Nothing like getting a card in the mail is there? Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday Season to you, Patrick and everyone.
I loved seeing all your holiday decoration photos. It's so nice to see some festivity in these dark (and also cold) days and nights. Will you travel for Christmas? Thanks for sharing all this holiday fun photos, and I hope you had a nice party tonight. hugs-Erika
Very festive post.
We aren’t decorating for Christmas this year, except for a 1970s-era ceramic Christmas tree. We feel it is wise to not deal with cats AND a Christmas tree loaded with ornaments this year. I stopped sending Christmas cards a while back.
Dear Dorothy 🥰
Your post is really delightful 🤗👌
I loved looking at these pretty and fanciful pictures ♥️
Mice train 500 dollars wow ,pretty expensive but honestly I loved it so much 🤗
I love Santa and his job 🥹♥️
How wonderful your building creates such an amazing environment for the season, everyone participating deserves heartfelt congratulations 👍♥️
It is such a cheery time of year for most of us although I know that some struggle for various reasons.
Wow, what a lot of beautiful decorations everywhere! It is all so festive and bright and fun! Thank you for sharing them with us. Those little mice figures are really cute. I'm sorry to hear they are so expensive. I was thinking how fun they would be to have, but can't do that! LOL. Your personal door decor is lovely too. As far as cards go, I'm cutting back this year and mostly sending to people that I don't have an online communication with throughout the year. It's not only financial consideration, but I've been having issues with my left hand/thumb, and I am left handed, and it hurts to do much handwriting, so I'm limiting my cards. Typing is not a problem so much, but I do believe cards should at least have a handwritten signature and address. We'll see how far I get this year. I write to a lot of "older relatives' that I rarely ever communicate with otherwise, so it is a way to stay in touch. I hope you and your family have a blessed and wonderful Christmas! This was a delightful post.
I love seeing all the decorations! You do it well there in Nashua! (I think those ice sculptures might stay standing till June at the rate we are going!)
Hello Beatrice,
Well, this all looks terribly jolly and you clearly have lots of snow to make the festive scene complete. It is so good that people really get into the spirit of things and join in with the fun. Still, a lot of hard work when it comes to twelfth night :):)
We start decorating just a small tree on Christmas Eve. That is the custom in Hungary and, indeed, Christmas trees have only just started to appear for sale. The tree will be decked with baubles from years past and this year there will be mince pies as we have just discovered a British shop where mincemeat is to be found.
No cards....we used to send around 100 and received the same. Now we send none and receive the same. Good for the environment :):)
Your photos of all of the Christmas decor puts me in the mood for the season! Brrrr! Keep yourself warm!
I do decorate for Christmas right after Halloween. Very fun. Sitting by our two little trees now. LOVE your collection you shot here. I mean, what a feast for the eyes and camera lens. I love it.
What beautiful holiday displays. Some of the photos of Nashua would make great Christmas cards.
And speaking of Christmas cards, I still mail them out the old fashion way, only it's harder to find cards.
The card stores I used to frequent near my home and near my office (before Covid) have closed down. Times are changing.
Hope you had a great time New York!
Very festive.
