What's New This New Year?

Happy New Year Folks !

It's that traditional time of year— a new beginning — and many folks often make one or more of resolutions similar to these:

  • Lose weight
  • Exercise more
  • Volunteer
  • Quit smoking
  • Save money
  • Eat healthier
  • Manage stress
  • Travel to new places
  • Manage debt
  • Drink less
  • Look for another/better job
  • Reduce waste/recycle more
  • Get organized/reduce clutter
  • Spend time with family/friends
  • Attend church/religious services more often

Have you made any of these today or in previous years? Since I asked, here's my resolution list (so far) for this New Year:

  • Smile more
  • Compliment people (everyone needs to hear something nice)
  • Call/write friends regularly (not via social media)
  • Say I love you to family/friends as often as possible
  • Go to the fitness center 3X weekly (no excuse as it's in the mill-apt complex)
  • Argue less and accept more
  • Be more honest with myself and others
  • Lose weight (something my late mother urged nagged me to do, so it's in her memory and, more importantly, my better health)

HOW did you spend the 1st day of 2015? Here's what we did:

  • Paid bills
  • Caught up on laundry
  • Opened holiday cards (received while we were away)
  • Took a walk
  • Cooked a crock pot dinner (no surprise)
  • Wrote this first post of 2015

FYI, modern Westerners were not the first to make New Year’s resolutions, studies have shown that Babylonians, Romans, and Medieval knights made vows as well. It's not known how many they kept, but if they were anything like folks today, it can be assumed there was a fair amount of the “I’ll start tomorrow” philosophy. Today less than 50 percent of Americans make resolutions and less than 10 percent achieve them.

So, how do you think you will do?

Your list of resolutions sound very much like mine. I do want to make a more concerted effort to stay in touch with people (not on facebook but writing or calls) Facebook is just too easy!!

Could be why my life is in such a fray. I didn't make any resolutions, but does it have too be on that day? I like your 2nd list. Don't spend much time in the gym, but should. I worked for the Y for years. I was outside all day chasing eagles and a variety of other pics.

Happy New Year!
I vow to take each day as it comes. Stop bemoaning the past and worrying about the future.

One day at a time here. The on line business, the remodeling in the basement, the travel to and from wherever we have to be, the doctor appointments all shoved into a small amount of time before we leave again. Yep, one day at a time....

I do not make resolutions as such. What I do is try to be the best person I can be at all times. I do not always succeed but I am trying.

Hi Dorothy,
Happy New Year to you and Pat!
I chose a word for the new year: movement.
I can use more movement in my body, mind, and spirit. So my resolution is to live into that word daily. That being said, my first day of 2015 was spent in bed! LOL! Actually, Ray has/is recovering from the flu. I got a version of it. Got up to do stuff today and got well and truly dizzy a couple hours into it. Too much movement.
:) m & jb (who does not suffer from any lack of movement)

I too did a load of laundry but not much else. Today I made bread and shoveled part of the yard.

I give my condolences re your Mom. She was a spiffy looking lady both as a young woman and as an elderly gal. She aged very well. Hard to lose your Mom!!! Mine is still going.

I haven't been doing much in the blogging realm ... writing or reading but recently my sister-in-law gave me a shot in the arm ... how she missed my entries. I didn't even know she still read them! So I took myself in hand and put up an entry. Trouble is, my life isn't all that interesting!

I will need to go back in your entries to see if you sold your house.

I don't make resolutions, but rather set a goal or two. I am grateful for each day that I can get up and eat breakfast and see and hear...things that some take for granted. So one of my goals is to eat better and exercise more...hoping to stay healthy! And I think I say that every year, but really mean it this year. lol!
Happy New Year to you and Pat!

Being perfect in almost every way, I find no need to make resolutions. ;)

I like your list. Those things seem very achievable and benefit not only you, but others as well. The world needs more NICE. :) I don't really do resolutions anymore, but yours has me rethinking that...

I don't have much in my list. I just want to live the same happy life I used to live. And that depends on my attitude towards everything...so I'm doing it! :)

By the way, Thank you for sharing thoughts regarding my Granny and your Mom. I've read your post about her, saw her picture and I felt the pain. Eventhough I don't know you neither your Mom, I know how it feels when you look at her pictures. It's the same when I look at my Granny's pics.

Life goes on as they said but memories of our loved ones will forever linger.

I wish you great things for this year.
