Family Gathering

As families, we gather for events, many of which are happy times — holidays, births, weddings, and birthdays. There is also the sadness of a family member's passing.

Last weekend, our family traveled from 4 states (CT, NH, PA, and RI) to a 5th state, NJ (home state to many adult family members). We came to remember and say farewell to an aunt, sister, and sister-in-law. In sadness, there is also happiness at being together.

Grandchildren Ellie and Bobby came from RI with their mom, Shannon.
Shannon with sister Coleen and youngest granddaughter, Lilliana.
Lilliana and her parents Paulo and Coleen traveled from from PA.
Pat's (Grenville) aunt and uncle, Anita and Russ traveled from CT for a first time meeting with their great great niece Lilliana.
Grandpa Grenville spent time with Ellie and Bobby.
And with Lilliana, who will be 7 months old later this month.

Ellie and Bobby also took turns holding their cousin Lilliana.
And, they delighted in showing her a cell phone.

Lilliana is the youngest family member and by far was the most photographed one.
We'll be seeing these family members in a few short weeks as we are together again for another event — a happier one — granddaughter Ellie's 6th birthday.

beautiful grand children and I think my favorite of them is the cell phone pic. it is always sad to meet for a funeral but always glad also... my cousins came to see me while bob was in surgery and the last thing Bonnie said was we have to get together sometime when it is not a funeral, surgery or wedding... the last time I saw them was several months ago at their dad's funeral.

Family holds itself together even when there is a loss of one. Your grandkids showing her the cell phone is such a great shot.

Sometimes, it's the only thing that gathers the various families.

Sorry to hear of your loss. These occasions can be bittersweet. Those family members whom we get to see so rarely help us get through these sad times. Lovely photos of the family.
