Friday Funnies

Last one for this month . . .
"Beam me up . . ."

On a historical note: Today marks what would have been the 98th birthday of the late President John F. Kennedy.

The year before his November 1963 assassination, he received what has become the most remembered presidential birthday greetings from the late actress and singer, Marilyn Monroe. She performed "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" at a NYC Democratic fundraiser at Madison Square Garden in 1962, 10 days before JFK's 45th birthday. After a LARGE birthday cake was presented to the President, he was quoted as saying:  "I can now retire from politics after having had Happy Birthday sung to me in such a sweet, wholesome way," alluding to Ms. Monroe's performance in a skintight dress and sultry voice.
Ironically, it was one of her last major public appearances before she died less than 3 months later in August 1962. (Monroe's iconic dress cost $12,000; it was sold in 1999 at a NY auction for over $1.26 million.)

Enjoy your weekend, Everyone

(For anyone wondering about "What" the device is atop this car, we believe it's a ham radio antenna or CB antenna. However, we prefer the theory of an "alien" visitor.)

I'm amazed he could have said that with a straight face!

Jackie Kennedy was furious about Marilyn Monroe's tribute to JFK. The person who allowed her to appear was probably in hot water from both the President and the First Lady.

that's funny about JFK, such a two faced man, wasn't he supposed to be having an affair with her?

That car is Marvin the Martian. It seems wild Kennedy would be 98, he at the time was the youngest president.

Reading the comment above, John F. Kennedy was the youngest ELECTED President but Theodore Roosevelt was our youngest President.
If you want to read a good book about JFK, I really like "Johnny, We Hardly Knew Ye".
And a good movie that I liked about Marilyn Monroe..."My Week With Marilyn". I think she was a fascinating woman honestly, like many beauties, underrated for her intelligence.

I don't think anyone will forget the "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" presentation. And, for those not old enough to have seen it at the time, it is replayed often for all to see. ;)

Cute memory of our president. I was in Latin class in high school when the announcement of his assassination came over the public address system.

I have always thought that that Happy Birthday performance was creepy.

So sad to have lost two greats at such a young age... I still love reading through JFK's speeches and commentary, he was such a wise man. Now for this alien antenna... very strange indeed!

A $12,000 dress. I can't even imagine that. I could use that much money to buy a car or finish paying off the mortgage on our house not to buy a dress.
