As Seen on TV

Ever bought one of those "as seen on TV" products?

We did or rather I did, and this choice was one of Pat's birthday gifts besides his Tilley Endurable hat. He said that it was his 2nd favorite gift, good as there were only 2 gifts.

And, it's something he's been using regularly but we never owned — a pineapple corer.

Seeing this on TV would have been difficult as we don't ever watch anything, but luckily it was "as seen on Amazon." When you live in a small town, online ordering is truly a good great thing as there are few shopping choices here.

After coring the pineapple, there is "play time" followed by sampling. Is this how Carmen Miranda got her start?

Carmen Miranda was a Portuguese-Brazilian singer dancer, Broadway actress, and film star popular from the 1930s to the 1950s. She made her first Hollywood film, Down Argentine Way in 1940 with Don Ameche and Betty Grable. Her exotic clothing and Latin accent soon became her trademark. She was voted the third most popular personality in the U.S. that same year.
In 1941, Carmen Miranda was the first Latin American star to be invited to imprint her hands and feet in the courtyard of the Grauman's Chinese Theatre. She became the first South American to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. A museum was later constructed in Rio de Janeiro in her honor
Nicknamed “The Brazilian Bombshell” Ms. Miranda was noted for the signature fruit hat outfit she wore in her American films, notably in the 1943 film, The Gang's All Here. By 1945, she was the highest paid woman in the U.S.

Ever buy a TV-advertised special and HOW did it work out ?

My neighbor bought one of those pans for cooking brownies. It works really great. No brownie has a hard edge from the hot pan and all pop out in individual square portions.

Yes! That is EXACTLY how Carmen Miranda got her start! You never know where an As Seen On TV gadget will take you! Grenville Miranda has a nice ring. Beatrice Miranda a tad less so.LOL!

A lot of those gadgets look interesting. I would not have a lot of use for a pineapple corer though. My son bought what he calls a "hair whopper chopper" about 20 years ago. He still uses it to cut his own hair and he gets a very professional looking cut. He has saved a lot of money over the years with that purchase.

Warning Pat! Warning! When you are invited to embed your hand prints in fresh concrete don't let anybody push on your back - you might not get your hands back out!

I've not bought anything that rates as "seen on TV". Not sure I'd have a use for a pineapple corer.

I'd like one of those, might put it on my list as I love fresh pineapple. Grenville looks great with his pineapple hat ;) I remember Carmen Miranda well, she was very popular on British TV when I was growing up, at least I remember her from her movies. Her hat always fascinated me.

Ha! That would be a "yes" to your question. Years ago when we still lived in Alaska, we watched an infomercial that was selling the "Phantom" vacuum cleaner. It looked and sounded really good, so we ordered one. When it arrived, it wouldn't even start, grunt, or purrrr. And yes, we had plugged it into a working outlet. It was a phantom alright: we returned it the next day...on our dime, and have NEVER ordered anything again from those TV "infomercials".!!

What a high fashion look! ;) Very nice! We love toys, too, and sometimes fall for the "as seen on TV" but only get them in a brick and mortar store. We haven't had one for awhile, but I like the look of that thing that makes the brownies already cut/sectioned.

Those tv advertised gadgets are hit or miss. I have fallen for some, but not in a long time. This one looks like a winner. And I love the pineapple hat on Pat! :)

How did we ever get by without those wonderful "seen on TV" gadgets?

I can't believe they haven't hired Grenville to model for the TV commercial--I'm sure they'd sell a ton more if he did! Since we record most of the TV we watch we get to fast-forward through all the wonderful commercials. I know, we are really missing out....

I'm doing catch-up a bit at a time now that my company has went back home. I really liked your bachelor buttons. Wonderful collages, and the grasshopper shot is great!

That looks like a handy gadget to have on hand.

I have a couple real faves but I do not buy them from TV, only when I can see them, Walgreens, Walmart or where ever. I inend to blog someday about my 2 faves a steam crock, excellent in the microwave for veggies & more & a wonderful knife. These are jokes at our home as each year some doozies appear...the worse "eggies" which Jerry bought me once for Christmas as we don't do gifts.
