Easter is When?

Easter is April 20 this year.
According to our calendar, as I write this, it's January 4. Stepping back in time today as this post was written a couple of weeks ago and unpublished.

WHY is this significant?
Apparently, it's NOT soon enough as some most retailers need an early start to put out their Easter-themed candy confections. This past weekend, these well-known creme eggs were on display along with Valentine's candies and leftover holiday candies.

These other candy brands were also displayed at a well-known chain store this weekend.

While, the store's name is being withheld here, there are other retailers I am sure with similar (early) displays.

By the way, when did these these candy brands become special for every holiday?

Isn't a Milky Way or Snickers  still the same candy bar, regardless of the holiday?

OK, I'm dating myself here, but in years past, "traditional" Easter treats were mainly chocolate bunnies, jelly beans,  and this personal favorite, which disappears quickly (like egg nog after Christmas).

Remember when toys were reserved for Christmas and not put in Easter baskets?

AND, Easter candy sales did not start 2 weeks after Christmas OR before Valentine's Day hearts were put away.

Yes, the Valentine cards, candies and gifts were on adjoining shelves near the Christmas clearance items.

Do you recall when holidays were less rushed and enjoyed more ?

As you can tell, I do. Now, excuse me while I go out to gather hoard marshmallow eggs before they disappear (like the egg nog).

my easter baskets as a child had candy and a stuffed bunny, and room left for the eggs we hunted. my kids had the same basket with the same type things. and we never got Valentine or Easter toys of any kind, just a valentine with a candy heart on the table from mother. i think they put them out early because the candy cost so much now they have to have time to buy a few each week to fill up a basket.

Yes, I remember those days when we didn't rush right from one holiday to the next. I miss those days.

HaHa! You are so right. Everything is so commercialized now, I wonder if most people know the "reason for the season" ?? Case in point, I'm not sure Easter was ever intended to be about bunnies and baskets. LOVED this post.

Yes, this is getting a bit silly.

Yes, I do remember. And I especially remember when Peeps were always yellow marshmallow chicks and sold only at Easter. Now they have them for most holidays and that's just wrong.

For sure the holidays run into each other these days! Yep, gotta get that egg nog while the getting is good. I hoarded egg nog ice cream a couple of years ago and enjoyed it for two or three months into the Spring. :)

I guess they will do anything to get money. Its a shame they have to run these all together.

They'll really go into high gear here once Valentine's is over, but yes, they already have some easter stuff out.

It sometimes seems these retail stores are just extending and extending- and the suppliers behind them, of course- each holiday into the next. Sooner or later you'll have Hallowe'en stuff showing up after the fourth of july.

Not a lot of temptation, but one store did carry the Cadbury eggs all year.

I almost forgot, that was a selfie. Set my camera on a picnic table and put the timer on for 10 sec. It was a bit fast to pose on that ice.

I've been seeing Easter stuff out too. It's way too early.
