Falling for New England

Earlier posts this week show some fall colors we saw driving from VA to New Jersey and then through New York state. All along this road trip we were treated to scenes of nature’s wonderful color palette at this time of year.

However, to us there’s nothing quite like the autumn burst of color in New England, despite this being near the end of “leaf peeping” season.

Getting off the highway and driving along back roads and small towns is one of our favorite travel activities. It’s also when we really saw remaining “pops” of colors.

Nothing quite announces fall in New England more than a leaf-covered roadway and a white church steeple, even if at a distance.

This small town library was picturesque surrounded by autumn colors.

As was this New England seaport town also seen from a distance at  scenic overview.

Add in another white church steeple and a lighthouse, plus some boats and it’s a typical New England scene.

All the above photos were taken while we were traveling in and around New London, CT. Most shots (except the last four) were taken through a car window as stopping was impractical in many places. Yes, there were troublesome power and utility lines; however, I tried to crop out as many as possible in the collages.

Hope that your weekend travels are colorful and fun — both would be great!

Thanks for letting me visit the colour of autumn again as it is long gone here. Thinking of snow tires here.

Beautiful! Been a long time since I saw a New England Fall. Our trees are beautiful here at home and dropping leaves like crazy....which spells w.o.r.k!
Enjoy your week end!

I love your autumn tour! That first shot is breathtaking! They're all beautiful - that steeple/lighthouse photo is really nice too.

They are all so beautiful. Your falls have such brighter leaves than we do out here in the prairie. I know it has to do with the kind of trees that you have also. It is a challenge to take them from the car.

You are doing something that I have always wanted to do..........go through New England at this time of year. My son is stationed in New York for his Navy training. It is his first time to see beautiful images like this!

Beautiful, vibrant colours!

We're past that prime place here, and we had snow today, so those leaves still on the trees have a white coating to them this evening!

Loved them all; my favorite was the one with the white church steeple amidst the colors of the leaves! And the ones along the water were great too! Now I know why tour companies offer trips back to the Northeast during the fall season!

Beautiful photographs!
I especially like the top one but anything with water in it is also a favorite :-)

Why is it that the most beautiful places always are placed where it's hard to stop the car :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

love love love these photos and the ecstatically brilliant reds. Our colors are gone now with smatterings of deep gold and darker rusts along the bluffs. I am a big fan of photos with church steeples too, so that appealed all the more.
