Testing, Testing and Spooning

Honestly, that's ALL we were doing after going grocery shopping this weekend. (What were you thinking?)

We brought these two packages home and then this happened. Grenville says he had never heard of "testing" the ice cream until we met. As for me, I've always done it as far back as I can recall buying my own groceries that is. I'm fairly certain it would have been frowned upon when growing up.
You will notice that Grenville NOW joins me in this "tradition" as there are 2 spoons for sampling. After all, we are having guests for dinner Monday and HAD to make sure the dessert would be OK . . .right?
Of course, we were not having company last week when this happened.

Just wondering do YOU test ice cream before putting it in the freezer?

Nope. But it seems like a fine tradition.

Actually, we don't do any testing. We have one favorite ice cream that needs no testing, because it's the only kind we'll buy or eat: Breyer's Natural Vanilla. It's fabulous.

Ha, I would have to say we would have to have a seperate container for the guest and one for us as I have been known to double-dip.

So whats your favorite?

So how many ice cream songs do you know? There was one in "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World" I think was called "Tutti-Fruitti Baby" with the lyrics "I call him Ice Cream Joe. He's the most delicious boy I know. When I kiss him I feel My-T-Fine. I love his 31 flavors." It doesn't mention anything about spooning, though.

I don't test ice cream. But that is before I knew that it was a possibility. It does make sense. Who would want to give bad ice cream valuable freezer space!

And to think that all these years nobody ever clued me in on this chore! We always put the tubs into the freezer without any second thoughts. Now I know better: Trust but verify!!
