What Goes Up in Summer?

Temperatures as most of us know by the recent heat wave hitting large parts of the U.S. And gas prices as seen on this recent road trip to RI for Ellie's birthday.

We travelled through 5 east coast states from our VA home (MD, DE, NJ, NY, CT). Lowest cost (then) was on the NJ Turnpike at $3.38/gal and highest (as always) was in CT at $4.15/gal. All other gas costs were in between those ranges.

Of course, these rates could all be different by the time we reach home Sat night. While we don't expect they will go lower, temperatures are expected to drop by the weekend.

1 out of 2 isn't bad, but we would rather the gas costs dropped.

I hate buying gas and when my son finishes his PhD in fuel cells, I expect to buy a car that runs forever on whiffs of something CHEAP! Go Travis!

Filled up yesterday in a neighboring town, 2 miles away for $3.45. I passed our local newest station here at $3.65. Across the street it was $3.55, and up a tenth of a mile, $3.59.
A difference of 20 cents in one mile?
And VA has enacted a penalty tax on hybrid cars to "make up for the revenue they lose to energy efficiency." Really!

Be ready for real complaints when you cross the border in September.

That sucks ! The only thing that's been going up for us is the temps and humidity here in Canada . Yesterday it hit a high of 90 with the humidity it felt like 106 ! T-storms all night with high winds lots of rain which we needed and the lightning was awesome but there was tornado watches in effect as well ! Still humid but not as bad ! Hope the gas prices come down a bit there ! Thanks for sharing ! Have a good day !

Regular gas is $3.95/gal in Eugene, OR right now. It fluctuates from one town to the next mostly because of local gas taxes. Oregon is one of two states that don't let you pump your own gas. The industry has attempted many times to have us vote to allow self-service but Oregonians don't want it. In Washington gas is as expensive or higher with self-service so we think it eliminates jobs without saving any money for customers. Plus we get to stay in the car during lousy weather and oftentimes get our windshield cleaned.

We are experiencing widely varied prices in the South East, too.

In answer to your title, something else going up this summer is my weight. Too much good food on this trip! Time to eat lots of salads again.

We live in MN but local gas prices match WI, the state right across the river ever since the MN legislature increased the taxes oh and ever since the local Kwik Trip operators drove most other business off. While folks from WI used to come here to fill up now it does not matter. If we drive about 12 miles down the county to Houston it is ususally 5 to 8 cents cheaper. We buy from a local independent near us who gives a 4 cent discount for cash. Over years of our motor home travels we find cheapest gas in TX,& WY; state taxes make a big difference. I have tried to analyze why prices rise, tee seems to be no reason. I know that here prices can go up a nickel in a heart beat, they might decrease a penny but then they will rise again. Here the prices never fall below what they were when they started rising. It makes no sense. But the only alternative is walk or bike, so we just pay the price and gripe.
