Ice Cream & Music

social-concert collage
One of the nicest things about small-town living is summer holiday celebrations that bring folks together especially when they include patriotic music and ice cream.holiday wear collage
Last night we attended what has become an annual event in the neighboring town of Onancock in the past few — an old-fashioned Ice Cream Social and Band Concert that’s held outdoors on the town square, always on July 3.holiday wear collage2
Folks bring lawn chairs, blankets and many picnic before and during the concert. There’s a Kids Painting area where budding artists can create and then take home their artwork.art collage
This event is sponsored by members of the Onancock Business & Civic Association, which provides and scoops the free ice cream and seconds are always encouraged. Music is provided by the volunteer CommUnity Band.

Tomorrow, July 4th, is the annual non-motorized holiday parade and the Firecracker Book Sale at the county library. We’re helping out at the sale, watching the parade, then going to a friend’s home later.

How are you spending the holiday?

We have two July 4th traditions. First, the annual Butte-to-Butte race has more than 1,000 people run past our house about a half-mile from the race's start. Many dress up for the event. Second, "Art & the Vineyards" is a large community event featuring a broad selection of art, wine, music and food. This year our son-in-law's family is here on their first-ever visit to Oregon and we're taking them to the event. The temperature will only be in the low 80s, so our Las Vegas visitors may need to bring a sweater.

What a fun event! We are spending the day working around the house...Dale is mowing the lawn, I'm doing laundry. Fun day! Oh well. We will go sit on a hill overlooking the town of Lititz to see their fireworks show. Ellen enjoys them more from a distance. Enjoy your day!

Your photographs really bring out the red, white and blue! The Ice Cream Social and Band Concert looks like a fun event. My husband and I attended an event last evening called "Independence Rocks!". It was a concert held in the ballroom of our local Holiday Inn. Today was the 4th of July parade. From all the photographs I have seen, thus far, of the parade, it looks like it was fun and well attended. We didn't feel like going this year. The fireworks will be held this evening. We may or may not go see them. It just doesn't feel like the 4th of July today. We're both bored, but not feeling like going / doing anything. We did have a good dinner .. T-bone steak grilled over a wood fire, baked potato and vegetables with ice cream for dessert. So it hasn't been a total waste of a day. I think I would get into the day more if my husband had tomorrow off work. He has to work Friday and he may be working 5 hours on Saturday. Work puts a damper on the festivities, at least to us today.
