Firecracker Book Sale

1 ESPL firecracker sale (60)What’s become an annual event in our area started several years ago. That’s when the Friends of the Eastern Shore Public Library decided to hold their major book sale to coincide with the local July 4th parade. A previous post had photos from that event.

Well before the  9 a.m. start, folks lined up outside the library.booksale collage4
There’s a lot of colorful attire. Many stop in for the sale, walk in the parade, then return to check out any books they might have missed.booksale collage5
Sale books come from donations throughout the year. Library staff  save the best gently used ones for the sale which includes fiction and nonfiction books, cookbooks, craft books and children's’ books.booksale collage2
Buyers know that the 50 cents to $2 prices are real bargains and stack up on summer reading — the old-fashioned way with a book.booksale collage6
There’s was something for everyone.booksale collage7
Friends of the Library, including ourselves, unpack books the day before the sale, set-up on sale day, and box up books after the sale.

Where’s Waldo Grenville in these photos?

I really like sales like this but I usually miss it here since the library is too far away. Your prises are much better than ours though :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

It's great that you helped with this event. My favorite photos are of the children reading: especially the one in the middle. Priceless.

I hope they made lots of money... our library has a room dedicated to used book sales... they have a volunteer in their and i think they do really well with the sales. they sell them really cheap... paper backs to that people donate.

My friend and I were inside a library the other day. My friend made a comment, wondering if the written word will ever go away. I don't believe so. I read both, real books and e-books. It is good to see so many people stocking up on reading material.

We love book fairs, but have finally realized we don't have any more room at home for them. We have bought most of our books digitally recently.

Hmmm, Waldo would be the only one not touching or reading any book.

Our local friends group does this once a month, but the customers are diminishing because the books remain left behind instead of culling and getting new. Our group is intent on doing things the way they have always done them, so the are attuned to their practices. I adore library book sales and try to stop on travels too. Well any book sale is a great event to me.
