Time for A(nother) Change

imageNo, this is not Tinkering, OK maybe it really is but when the Who can Comment? setting was reset to Anyone this week, those REALLY annoying Anonymous comments started again. Seems that  spammers have nothing to do but send out those ridiculous Anonymous comments — all get deleted by us before even being published. Did I mention how they are REALLY REALLY annoying as most fellow bloggers already know.

Who can comment?

  • Anyone - includes Anonymous Users
  • Registered User - includes OpenID
  • User with Google Accounts
  • Only members of this blog

An earlier change to User with Google Accounts unfortunately excluded some great blogger friends like Christer (The Cottage by the Crane Lake Part Two) who don’t use Gmail from posting a comment. Those folks can still read the posts, just not comment.

Grenville and I really really enjoy reading everyone’s comments BUT the Anonymous ones while being bothersome,  take time to delete and we would MUCH rather be doing other things when online like posting or reading your posts.

To all fellow bloggers who left comments on the previous post about this issue; most preferred Registered User.

Who can Comment? has been changed to that — so Take that Anonymous

good job, this should work fine.

I agree. I have a lot of folks who read my blog, but do not leave a comment because of my restrictions. But there is not much else to do. Have a great weekend coming up!

I think this is the best solution. Now all that has any kind of ID on the nest can comment!

Have a great day!
Christer.

Guess I have to leave a comment just to see how it works ;-) My own blog sort of runs in spurts... several anonymous comments (some from as long as a year ago!) and other drivel... I haven't done anything about it yet.

It's getting harder and harder to keep out the Spammers. I figure that I would rather spend the extra time browsing all the comments than blow off some folks that deserve to get through.

Just testing to see if I am a registered user or considered a spammer ;-)

I wash getting a lot of spam, also. Now I'm using registered user and that seems to be fine. I think in the past year I've only had 2 legitimate anonymous comments - and they were both from people I have other ways of keeping in touch with. So I'm thinking registered user is aok

I went through that too and what a pain in the butt!...I have a lot of friends who don't blog, nor do they use google...so would what you selected allow them to comment?...:)JP

Glad you gave old Anonymous a knockout punch! If someone really wants to comment it's an easy process to register as a user someplace.

It works for me also. Anonymous is definitely a pain....

The spammers are indeed annoying. I hope this setting works better for you.
