NH Craftsmen & Annual Fair

craft show overview

When a fair is not only into its 79th year, but a nine-day event held on the ground of a ski resort, then you know this is a pretty big deal. That's the case with the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen's fair that's always held the first week in August at the Mount Sunapee Resort in Newbury, NH.

NH wood crafts

Founded in 1932, the League of NH Craftsmen is one of the oldest and most prestigious craft organizations in the country. The League was formed during the Depression years in the villages of Sandwich and Wolfeboro to help NH craftspeople make a living through those difficult financial times. The League continues this mission through educational programs and by building an audience and market for fine handmade crafts. In 1932, then NH Governor John Winant established and funded the League of Arts and Crafts, making New Hampshire the first state in the nation to support crafts.

NH pottery

This annual crafts fair showcases the work of more than 350 juried artists showing and selling their handmade works. It's the place to see an incredible variety of beautiful, one-of-a-kind items that are not only decorative, but functional and durable. Crafts include woodturning, pottery, textiles, glass blowing, metal working, photography and many more.

NH textiles

There are 200 exhibitor booths set up in many very large tents; also five exhibition tents. Activities include 18 workshops for adults and children, over 20 craft demonstrations, programs to learn more about specific craft techniques, musical performances, food, and child care. There is an entry admission, but it's good for 2 days and parking is free with shuttle bus service included.

NH outdoor sculptures

Photos are NOT clickable to enlarge . . . WHY? It was composed on a MacBook using the MarsEdit blog program. This program does not provide the same features as Microsoft Live Writer blog program does for PC blogging. There is NO similar SW for Mac users (SIGH) . . . yet.

I wonder why we have so few things like this, when we do have them most people just whine all the time about how expensive everything is. Well they could try to do it themselves and they would understand why :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day!

Christer.
