To Market and Bakery

Readers of this blog, OK even occasional ones, may know about Grenville’s greatly downsized gardening from last year . . .

garden overall 0628tomatoes0621 (1)To now . . .

veggies0608 (3)Since there’s no lettuce, corn, zucchini, squash in this garden, we take weekend trips to neighboring Onancock which (as of this year)has a Sat. only market selling not just produce, but seafood and art. farmers market collageOur friend, Matt, owner of the former F&P greenhouse (site isIMG_9904 now our veggie garden) sells homemade honey. We can vouch for its quality as the happy recipients of several jars traded for Grenville’s boxes of unused canning jars.

The market is located a (very) short walk from a very popular favorite Onancock business — The Corner Bakery — like the market, it’s also NOT open on Sunday.corner bakery It’s also a Sat stop.

YES, that struck us as unusual, a bakery that’s NOT open all weekend and doesn’t sell bread or rolls. BUT the freshly baked goods here are delicious as the line shows.

Maybe, another reason to relocate to find a bakery that’s open BOTH Sat and Sun and that sells fresh-baked breads too.

There used to be a 24 hour bakery in the next village. At least that is what the sign said. It was right next to the sign that always said 'CLOSED'.

that honey looks divine from here. i love honey and it has been many years since i had fresh honey with the comb still in it, daddy's friend used to give us jars of it. so much better than what we get in the stores.

The honey is beautiful and I love your photo collages. We have a nearby favorite bakery who only sells rolls/bread on Sat. and they are closed on Sun & Mon. Maybe you and I should open a bakery!!!!!

An odd bakery indeed but it is sort of nice that they aren't open on Sundays. Reminds me of how it used to be and we still survived back then :-)

It was a too cold spring here so my tomato plants doesn't grow especially well at all but they will give me a couple of tomatoes anyway :-) Most of the winter squash died from heavy raining and those that survived doesn't grow much either. Thank god I don't need them for my survival :-) :-) :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

We don't have a garden, just an herb box. But we are fortunate to have a little market down the road with wonderful seasonal produce and fresh baked bread and pies.

The garden is looking great! I love fresh-baked bread anytime. It does seem odd that the bakery isn't open on Sundays.

Well, maybe on one of our road trips we'll be able to check this place out. Looks lovely!

I love our Farmers Market. It's open on Wednesdays and Saturdays, and much the easiest way to have fresh homegrown produce.
