Heritage Celebration 2012

IMG_0368Not that we expect everyone to remember, but once again this past weekend, Eastern Shore Community College hosted its annual Heritage Celebration to showcase local arts and crafts. We’ve participated the past 3 years, Grenville with wood turning and myself with photography as shown in the above collages.

What’s unique about this event is that it’s not only free for local artisansIMG_0365  but coffee, donuts and lunch are also gratis to participants. Artists are invited to sell their wares too. Last year, Grenville lamented about having no sales. This year, he nearly sold all his remaining inventory (shown here) which made him very happy.

We know many folks in the local arts/crafts community from participating in local shows in past years. It’s always good to see their work; there are many talented folks on the VA eastern shore. Here are some examples of local talent.

That looks like a lot of fun. THE BOSS, Mini Boss and BOSS's sister have been after me to enter the photography exhibition at our annual community festival and it looks like I'll have no choice but to do it this year. I've put it off because I was having too much fun just getting out shooting:-)

But I do remeber this :-) I like the things Grenville made! I also like the fish in the photo below, I don't know why perhaps it has to do with growing up by the ocean and fishing a lot :-) :-)

So You use the word gratis too :-) It has the exact same meaning in swedish :-)

Have a great day!
Christer.

YES Daisy, Elaine, Grace, Christer and Sandra...Grenville was so happy to have had a good sales day too. He figures that his one [roce for anything was the best way to go and it worked well!

Christer, gratis is a good word in any language!

Chip, you should listen to the Boss and others and try a local event. We did the local circuit for a few years too. It was a lot of fun, even if not very profitable.

Possum, the honey was Paul's Honey, not sure where he is from, but there's a local number on the jars 757-672-8865.

Sandra, the "R2D2" looking thingy is called a smoker. Beekeepers use it to calm the bees so they can open the beehive. I was told that the smoke signals a danger to the bees so they fill their abdomens with honey making it difficult for them to sting.

We visit craft shows from time to time but manage to keep the vendors poor, except for a certain jewellry creator anyway. Actually, it was she who was the inspiration for Cuppa to try her hand at it. Anyway, congrats to G.
